It's only a small thing… until you're the person it stops. 👀 A sign you can't read. An obstacle in the wrong place. A button you can't reach. What seems like a minor inconvenience to one person can become a real barrier to someone else. Accessibility isn't about making life easier. It's about making sure people aren't unnecessarily excluded. What's one small change that could make a big difference? Follow AbillityU for more real-world disability awareness and practical ways to make inclusion real. #AbillityU #Accessibility #DisabilityAwareness #InclusiveDesign #MakeInclusionReal

Thinking about starting a business as a disabled person? 💼 Running your own business can give you flexibility — but there are things you need to think about before you start. Your working pattern. The environments you'll need to access. And the support you'll need to make your business work for you. You don't have to fit your business around a traditional 9–5. Some days you may be able to do more, while other days your disability may mean you need to slow down or stop. That's part of building a business around your needs. **What would you add to this list?** 👇 If you want to learn more about invisible disabilities, check out our **Understanding Invisible Disabilities** course — link in bio. Disabled people start businesses too. The question isn't whether disabled people can build businesses. It’s whether the business support around them is accessible enough to help them achieve their goals. Workshops. Networking. Business advice. Training. Events. Technology. Accessibility matters at every stage. If you enjoy AbillityU’s content, like, share and follow for more. Your follow helps us reach more people — and means you’ll see more of our content too. Moving to university? 🎓 Packing your bags is only part of the preparation. If you're a disabled student, have you thought about your routes, local services, medication, paperwork and how you're actually going to manage day-to-day life? What’s one thing you’d add to the disabled student university checklist? 👇 Tell us in the comments, and don’t forget to like, share and follow @AbillityU for more disability in real life. #DisabledStudents #UniversityLife #StudentSupport #Disability #Accessibility

An EHCP is only useful if it actually works in real life. Teachers need to know which students have an EHCP, understand the support they need, and make sure that support is actually happening — not just sitting in a document. And parents: make sure you have a copy of your child’s EHCP, know what support it says they should receive, and check that it’s happening. Needs can change too. What worked last year might not work this year. Does the support in your child’s or student’s EHCP actually work? Let us know in the comments. #EHCP #SEND #SENDSupport #Teachers #Parents

Reasonable adjustments aren't always one-size-fits-all. What works in maths might not work in science. What works in the classroom might not work in P.E. And sometimes, the student doesn't know what will work straight away either. It can take time to try different approaches, see what helps and make changes. That's why communication between teachers and other school staff is so important. Sharing information, preparing resources in advance and thinking carefully about things like seating can make a huge difference. Inclusion isn't just about knowing a student's adjustments. It's about understanding what they need to access **each lesson. Teachers — how does your school share information about reasonable adjustments? Make inclusion normal. #DisabilityAwareness #ReasonableAdjustments #InclusiveEducation #Accessibility #SEND

Yesterday we looked at **5 things you might only think about if you're a disabled student.** Today, we're flipping it 👇 If a disabled student is new to your school, there are **5 simple things YOU can do** to help them feel more confident, included and able to navigate school. From showing them where their classroom is, to helping them learn the layout, keeping corridors clear and simply listening — small things can make a BIG difference. 💙 You don't have to be an accessibility expert. Sometimes inclusion is just: **“Come with me. I'll show you.”** 💬 Would you do these things for a new student? #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityInclusion #InclusiveSchools #SchoolLife #StudentLife

🎒 Back to school is here… but for disabled students, the first day can involve a LOT more than finding your classroom. How am I getting to school? 🚌 How am I going to find my way around? 🧭 Where am I going to sit? 🪑 Who can I trust? 👥 And what happens if I actually NEED my phone for medical or assistive technology? 📱♿ I’m all for phone-free schools — but inclusion still has to work in the real world. So let me ask you: 💬 What else might a disabled student be thinking about on their first day back? Parents, teachers, students and disabled people — I want to hear your thoughts 👇 🎒 New school year. 📱 Phone-free. ♿ More inclusive. Let’s make 2026 more inclusive as well as phone-free. ❤️ Like ↗️ Share ➕ Follow @AbillityU MAKE INCLUSION NORMAL. #BackToSchool #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityInclusion #SEND #DisabledStudents

🎒 BACK TO SCHOOL… BUT MAKE IT THE DISABILITY EDITION ♿ September means new timetables, new teachers, new classrooms and a fresh start… But for disabled students, there can be a LOT more to think about. 👀 Can I see the board? 👂 Can I hear clearly? 🪑 Is the desk suitable? ♿ Can I move around easily? 🔋 Do I have enough energy for the day? And please… can we finally retire: ❌ “But you look fine?” Disability isn't one-size-fits-all. What works for one person might not work for another. So this September, let’s stop assuming and start asking. **ASK. LISTEN. ADAPT.** 💬 What’s ONE thing you wish schools, colleges or universities understood about disability? 👇 Tell me in the comments. ♿ ABILLITYU **DISABILITY LIFE — LOUD & PROUD.** #BackToSchool #DisabilityTok #DisabilityAwareness #Accessibility #DisabledStudents

**Disability isn't one-size-fits-all. ♿** Blindness, autism, hearing loss, wheelchair use and invisible disabilities can all look very different from person to person. You can't always tell what someone can or can't do just by looking at them — and someone's abilities can even change from day to day. Stop assuming. Start listening. 💙 💬 **What's the most annoying thing people assume about disability?** Tell us in the comments 👇 #DisabilityTok #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityInclusion #DisabledTok #InvisibleDisability
