Amman Design Week 2026 returns to the Jordanian capital from 2 to 17 October, marking the event’s first edition since 2019. The biennial fair will feature more than 220 designers, makers and collectives across 204 events, in five districts and more than 60 participating spaces across the country. “Damascene homes are special because of the Damascenes themselves,” Syrian architect Michel Zayat says. Built around 1860 and formerly owned by an affluent family, this Damascene home (now known as Beit Al Ajami), stands in the Kanawat district as a testament to the city’s famous old Damascene houses: grand private residences built around courtyards, offering a tranquil sanctuary from the outside world. “The pale blue and green colours, which are beautiful and joyful, stole my heart. The ceiling was the reason why I bought the house,” says Syrian collector, art patron and philanthropist Lina Attar Ajami. Lebanese designer Elie Saab’s mornings in his Beirut home begin quietly on the terrace with a cup of coffee, before heading to his atelier nearby. Evenings, on the other hand, are reserved for friends who, he insists, are really family. Yet suprisingly, for someone whose career has made him one of fashion’s most recognisable names, Saab speaks surprisingly little about legacy. Instead, he returns repeatedly to Beirut itself. “I don’t love my country out of emotion alone,” he says. “I love it because it has values. For nearly three decades, Lebanese designer #ElieSaab has lived and worked within these few streets of Achrafieh. Drawn initially by its monumental wooden doors, he immediately thought of his father, who had always admired such craftsmanship. “He loved homes like this,” says Saab. “For him, a home felt enhanced when there was wood and beautiful doors. The moment I saw them, I knew this was the place I wanted to live in. I felt as though my father would also enjoy this type of home,” he recalls.
