The raid that saved the world. Operation Gunnerside 1943. Across the globe, millions of troops were deployed on Battlefields and fighting in a World War. In tanks, aircraft and ships across the Planet. But the outcome and fate of that war. The Victors would be decided based on what happened on this snowy hillside in Norway. For here at the Norsk Hydro Heavy Water Plant at Vemork. The Germans were using its heavy water to attempt to create nuclear power. And with that power… comes destruction. A previous failed attempt at inserting British commandos resulted in their capture and killing. It was up to Norwegians now to save the world. Near Rjukan in the Telemark region. They did just that. For all that say ‘you missed this part out’. There is a TWO HOUR video coming on this story soon 🫡 #heavywater #sabotage #rjukan #ww2history #raid

On the morning of departure , some of the Titanics crew had a few drinks in the Grapes Pub in Southampton. That decision would change their lives. Especially for the 3 Slade brothers. On the morning of 10th April the crew were allowed a few hours to enjoy land, some went to the pub .Like a story as old as time , one beer became many. And those beers meant they were late for re-boarding. They were replaced by others and those that replaced them lost their lives. The men who missed the boat survived. That beer meant they wouldn’t endure the sinking of Titanic. @The Grapes Southampton #southampton #titanic #survival #whitestarline #disaster

This is the former Gestapo headquarters in Oslo, Norway. Where the occupying German regime interrogated and tortured members of the Norwegian resistance during WW2. In 1942, the RAF launched a daring Mosquito raid on the building. the Mosquito crews attacked the building in an attempt to disrupt the Gestapo and destroy important records. But these raids came with huge risks, with aircraft facing German anti aircraft fire, fighter planes and the danger of hitting civilians in the city. The RAF returned in 1944 with another Mosquito attack, despite hitting the target but once again some of the bombs missed Victoria Terrasse. Instead, nearby buildings and a tram were hit, killing dozens of Norwegian civilians. #oslo #historytok #ww2history #royalairforce #raid

Operation Freshman was a British mission in November 1942 to destroy the heavy water plant at Vemork, Norway. Which was helping the Germans with their nuclear research. Two gliders carrying British soldiers were sent in to sabotage the plant, but terrible weather caused both to crash. Those who survived were captured by the Germans and executed. The mission was a complete disaster. These are the graves of some of those men. Later, Operation Gunnerside would take place. For clarity, I have nothing against the German people of today. Unfortunately online I cannot refer to the people who did this as they were known. The 1933-1945 regime. #heavywater #ww2history #warcrime #britisharmy #cemetery

In the footsteps of Heroes. I’m taking you on the journey those brave Norwegian men took during WW2. Hiking the saboteur trail in Telemark. Situated near Rjukan, the Norsk Hydro plant created heavy water. That water was deemed critical by the Germans in the Second World War for nuclear research. If these men hadn’t hiked this route to destroy it. Who knows what would have happened. I’m here doing this, to keep their memory alive. Because they made sure it never happened #rjukan #norway #ww2history #sabotage #heavywater

On 9 April 1940, the German heavy cruiser Blücher led the invasion force into the Oslofjord, carrying German troops tasked with capturing Norway’s capital Oslo. But standing in their way was Oscarsborg Fortress, where Norwegian defenders opened fire with 19th century guns before launching torpedoes that sent the Blücher to the bottom of the fjord. Hundreds of German soldiers died, and the sinking bought the Norwegian royal family and government precious time to escape. Ironically, the guns they sunk her with were made in Germany. It was the start of the invasion of Norway. #norway #oslo #ww2history #invasion #sinking

Can you imagine flying 40 missions over enemy territory?. Only to lose your life upon landing at a friendly airfield. This is what happened to this man. The Maryland was also used as a light bomber, I’m sure someone will try to point that out to me. So adding it in here!. In this role on Malta though it served a reconnaissance role. Near Mdina, you will find this cemetery. Containing the graves of around 350 Commonwealth airmen, sailors and soldiers. Aswell as 5 members of Winston Churchills delegation who crashed on route to the Yalta conference. It was a very interesting place to visit. Not far from the airfield that a lot of these men fought from. #cemetery #historytok #wargrave #ww2history #military

Cambridge American Cemetery is the final resting place of 3,812 Americans who never made it home from the Second World War. Most died in the skies over occupied Europe or in the Battle of the Atlantic. Over 5000 names are remembered on the Walls of the Missing here, men whose aircraft disappeared and whose bodies were never recovered. These young men crossed the Atlantic to fight for freedom, and thousands never returned home. Emily Harper Rea, an American Red Cross volunteer during World War II, is also buried at the cemetery. She died in a B-17 crash. Lest we forget. #american #cemetery #remembrance #ww2 #lestweforget

Malta was under constant attack during WW2. But it wasn’t just Pilots defending it. The Royal Malta Artillery played a vital role in defending the island. Manning the anti aircraft guns taking on the Axis aircraft. These men died not only protecting one of the most important Mediterranean strongholds, these men protected their homes. They helped Malta hold out against relentless bombing. Their bravery helped keep the island fighting when the odds were stacked against them. #ww2history #malta #cemetery #artillery #sacrifice

A big reason for creating these videos is that these stories are remembered. @LewysOnTheFrontline is a young kid that is doing exactly that. Without the younger generation keeping History alive. It will eventually be forgotten. So give this little man a follow and make his day. Let’s see where he ends up next! 🫡 #ww2history #normandy #airborne #reenactment #historytime

Thousands of men died in Gallipoli. Here on Malta, are buried some of the wounded. Gallipoli is to Australia and New Zealand what the Somme is to the British. Gettysburg to the US, Juno Beach to the Canadians. It is the Battle that is remembered to honour the Anzacs that fought there. Often forgotten though is the thousands of British and French troops who also died. It was also devastating to the Ottoman Empire. What is today Turkey, lost 250,000 of its sons. #ww1 #gallipoli #anzac #ottomanempire #war

The greatest convoy story of WW2. Operation Pedestal, August 1942. A desperate Allied convoy battled axis aircraft, submarines and ships to get vital supplies through to Malta. Most vital was fuel for the Spitfires. Only 5 merchant ships made it, the most famous being the fuel tanker SS OHio. It’s cargo of fuel helped keep Malta fighting. It changed the course of the war. Sadly this file was so ridiculously large it wouldn’t post. I had to screen record it, sadly reduces the quality of the video but the story remains the same 🫡 #ww2history #malta #convoy #operationpedestal #historytime

George “Screwball” Beurling was a Canadian Spitfire pilot who became one of Malta’s top fighter aces, scoring 27 victories over the island. He was Canadas most successful fighter pilot of the Second World War 🇨🇦 . His luck eventually ran out in 1948. In this spot , men likely died defending Malta. Men manning the anti aircraft guns agaisnt German and Italian attacks in WW2. You can see the battle damage around me. Husbands, fathers, brothers, sons…gone. Today it’s a car park. Lest we forget. This also contains a terrible blooper, but I kept it in. It would have probably made these lads laugh. #malta #sacrifice #ww2history #neverforget #battle

Much of the air battle over Malta took place over the sea. In The Battle of Britain, allied pilots had a home advantage. If they were shot down, often times they could bail out over friendly territory or in some cases await rescue if they landed in the channel. The Pilots in Malta didn’t have such luck, being such a small island surrounded by the hostile waters of the Mediterranean. Bailing out could mean certain death. That is the situation many of these men memorialised here found themselves in. They have no known grave. #memorial #royalairforce #ww2history #historytok #sacrifice

Ta' Braxia Cemetery in Malta. It became the main burial ground for the British garrison here during the 1800’s. In WWII, aerial bombardment damaged and destroyed some of the headstones and funerary monuments at the cemetery. I didn’t know for sure at the time of filming but turns out it did get hit. #bombing #cemetery #battledamage #church #ww2history
