@anegromoses

so late but, I did graduate from New York University, again! For my Master of Public Health, I concentrated in GLOBAL HEALTH and DISASTER SCIENCE—studying how a calamity starts long before a disaster. I wrote policy briefs on Reducing Malaria Burden of Disease among Rural Children Under Five in Burkina Faso and Reducing HPV Prevalence among Rural Females from ages 15 to 49 in Cote d'Ivoire. I worked with agencies and not for profits on how climate change reshapes vulnerability, and how we can build preparedness across sectors. I trained in systems thinking, disaster risk reduction, and Incident Command Systems, applying this work on the ground with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and New York Disaster Interfaith Services (NYDIS), as well as in humanitarian migrant shelters across New York where juggling multiple languages and cross cultural understanding was key. The pen is useful only as much as it pierces reality. Before that, at NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study, I developed an interdisciplinary thesis called Monstrosity: the Subaltern Praxis, tracing how modern states have historically managed “unwanted” populations through neglect, (mis)containment, (mis)management, and dehumanization. I studied how policy becomes violence when it renders some lives invisible—and how systems of power evolve to rationalize that violence globally. What now for Iman? My trajectory is work at the intersection of policy innovation, complex crisis response, humanitarian systems design, and global governance.
