Let your voice be heard on National #ILoveHorses Day and urge your legislators to support the SAFE Act! Each year, thousands of American horses are transported across our borders to be slaughtered for meat. The SAFE Act would PERMANENTLY CLOSE the horse slaughter pipeline by banning the slaughter of horses for human consumption in the U.S. and banning the export of horses abroad for that same purpose. Visit the link in bio (aspca.org/SavetheHorses) to join us today!

Surrendered to the ASPCA by an overwhelmed owner, nobody could've expected 5-year-old Tiki to become the viral internet sensation he now is. Through the hard work and dedication of @muddypawsrescuenyc and foster Isabel Klee (@Isabel Klee ), Tiki grew into an icon for resiliency and bravery. Now settled in with adopters Aubrie and Vince and his canine siblings Meyer and Gaia, Tiki's family is leaning into his popularity to help as many animals as possible (@tikiplustwo). His tiny face serves as a continuous reminder that by adopting or fostering, you're helping the next pet in need, which is what we call #TheRescueEffect. It's National Make A Dog's Day, and we're celebrating the right way with adoptable Stella, all thanks to @Subaru of America, Inc.! With her adorably pink nose and beautiful brown eyes, Stella isn't quite sure why she's still waiting to find her adopter. She has blossomed since arriving at our New York City Adoption Center. Once upon a time, Stella didn't have the confidence to walk more than a few steps outside. Now, she's always down for an adventure through the city streets, happy to trot along with her favorite person. Stella is also an affection connoisseur who loves to give sloppy kisses and receive pets all day. We can't thank our friends at Subaru enough for helping us spoil Stella while she waits for her person to come along. Dedicated to making the world a better place, our partners at Subaru are especially passionate about supporting dogs who may often be overlooked at a shelter, just like Stella. Want to really make Stella's day? Learn how you can take her and our other NYC dogs home by visiting aspca.org/nycdogs. #ASPCA #AdoptMe #SubaruLovesPets #MakeaDogsDay

The quirkier the pup, the better! One man's soft spot for pups with special needs 🧡 At Evan's house, every dog has a story. His first dog, Luna, arrived as a stray puppy and quickly moved in. Bert came after, recovering from serious injuries when Evan adopted him from a local shelter. It was his soft spot for dogs with special needs that led him to two ASPCA dogs, Gizmo and Eddie. Evan and his wife had been thinking about adopting a small dog when they came across Gizmo on the ASPCA website. The scruffy pup seemed like exactly the kind of laid-back companion they were looking for, and it didn't take long for him to become part of the family. His mitral valve disease, a heart condition that requires daily medication, might have deterred some, but for Evan, it made Gizmo all that much of a perfect match. After Gizmo, Evan wasn't actively looking for another dog until he saw Eddie's adoption profile online. Originally having come to the ASPCA Cruelty Recovery Center in Ohio with 34 other dogs as part of a suspected neglect case, it became clear that Eddie was not only hard of hearing, but also had a malformed and nonvisual eye, which was ultimately removed. Already drawn to overlooked animals, Evan noticed Eddie right away and decided to foster him. After about a week, it was clear that Eddie wasn't going anywhere, and he became the newest member of the pack! When Evan chose to adopt both Gizmo and Eddie, he freed up valuable space and resources at the shelter, giving even more animals a chance at rescue and rehabilitation. That's #TheRescueEffect. Many dogs suffering in puppy mills live in facilities licensed and overseen by the federal government. These dogs depend on the USDA to provide oversight and enforce basic standards of care. The reality is, time and time again, violations continue to persist. That's why we need Goldie's Act - federal legislation that would protect dogs in puppy mills by requiring the USDA to conduct better inspections of licensed facilities, provide lifesaving intervention for suffering animals and more. Make your voice heard this Puppy Mill Awareness Day and urge your members of Congress to support Goldie's Act by visiting aspca.org/GoldiesAct.

Don’t wait until a disaster is happening to prepare you and your pet. September is National Preparedness Month, making it the perfect time to build or update your pet's emergency go bag. The ASPCA has teamed up with @fedex to share what essential items to pack in your go bag in case of an emergency. Prepping a go bag in advance not only helps you evacuate quicker, but also reduces stress in an already stressful situation. You should pack items like: 🐾 7-10 days of food and water, with bowls 🐾 A collar with an ID tag, as well as any other walking equipment 🐾 Toys and a blanket just for your pet 🐾 A 2-week supply of medication and a digital copy of your pet's medical records 🐾 A crate and any bathroom supplies We’re grateful to our friends at @fedex, whose support helps our National Field Response Team transport emergency supplies and assist animals in need across the country. Learn more about what to pack at the link in our bio 🧡

HELP HORSES: Horses have captured American hearts for generations, but all horses, whether wild or beloved companions, are at risk of ending up in the horse slaughter pipeline because of a loophole in federal law. Every year, tens of thousands of horses fall into the wrong hands and are trucked over our borders to be killed for human consumption. Demand Congress to close the loophole and protect American horses: aspca.org/helphorses

Rescued from Disaster, Bergen Finds His Home with First Responders🚒 When historic flooding hit West Virginia in February 2025, local animal shelter Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association (KCHA) requested the ASPCA’s assistance to help with an emergency transport of 41 dogs. That’s when we met Bergen and his littermates, who were safely on their way to the ASPCA Cruelty Recovery Center (CRC). Bergen was a fairly healthy pup when he arrived at the CRC, so after a neuter surgery, he was ready to find a home. It didn’t take long for firefighter and paramedic couple Amber and Delaney to spot his photo online and submit an application. One meeting was all it took for Bergen to find his people. Now named RVCA after Amber’s favorite brand, this pup spends his days playing with his canine siblings, stealing socks, exploring the firehouse and bringing joy to his family. This Disaster Preparedness Month, RVCA’s story is a reminder that emergencies can happen at any time and to anyone. Having a plan for your pets, from emergency supplies to visible pet alerts at home, can help keep every member of your family safe. To read RVCA’s full story and get pet disaster preparedness tips, visit the link in our bio! This story is presented by our friends at @fedex, who help support the ASPCA’s National Field and Disaster Response efforts to assist animals in need, like Bergen. #ASPCA #ASPCAImpact

How Fostering Allowed for Rocket’s Safe Landing 🚀 In mid-January 2024, a pet owner brought their miniature Australian Shepherd into Veterinary Emergency and Referral Group, a 24-hour emergency and specialty veterinary hospital and ASPCA partner. Despite noticing swelling, the owner had left the dog’s muzzle on for over 36 hours, resulting in extensive necrotic wounds around the entire circumference of his muzzle and jaw. After roughly a month of receiving care at VERG, the dog, later named Rocket, was transferred over to the ASPCA Animal Recovery Center. Due to the severity of his condition, an NYPD investigation was launched, ultimately resulting in the ASPCA being awarded custody of Rocket. When Rocket came into our care, he was still facing a long road to recovery. After months of medical care, behavioral support and healing, one thing became clear: Rocket needed the comfort of a home to truly begin to decompress. That’s when Elena, an ASPCA foster and volunteer, stepped in. What started as a temporary placement became the safe landing Rocket needed, and eventually, Elena made the decision to adopt Rocket. This National #AnimalFosterAppreciationWeek, we’re celebrating the lifesaving impact foster caregivers like Elena make every day. When one animal gets the chance to heal in a home, it creates the space for another to get care, safety and a new beginning. We call that #TheRescueEffect. 🎹🎶Ya like jazz? Carbon sure hopes so; he's practicing his scales, hoping to impress you! We didn't know we had a budding wonder kid on our hands at our New York City Adoption Center until Carbon met a piano in his foster home. While most cats prefer playing with toy mice, Carbon much prefers to work on his concerto in hopes of making it big (@nyphilharmonic? @carnegiehall? Who knows where his skills might take him!). Until then, though, Carbon is hoping to find an adopter to enjoy everyday life with, including petting sessions and birdwatching. He is only 2 years old after all, he has his whole life ahead of him! If you're ready to bring a little more whimsy into your life, Carbon might be your perfect tune (piano not required). 🚨 BREAKING: 100+ Cats Removed from Unsanitary, Overcrowded Conditions🚨   Late last week, our teams in New York City removed over 100 cats from unsanitary and overcrowded conditions across three New York City homes. Kittens and some pregnant cats were also found in the homes.    These simultaneous removals follow several large-scale rescue operations in New York City in recent weeks, during which more than 300 at-risk animals, primarily cats, were rescued across the five boroughs through our Community Engagement program and partnership with NYPD. By intervening early, we help prevent further suffering while supporting pet owners in need of assistance.   After receiving medical exams, the cats are now being transported to an ASPCA recovery facility in Ohio for care and treatment before they'll be made available for adoption.  Please consider rushing an urgent gift today to help as we continue to care for these rescued animals, and to support our efforts to rescue and protect those most in need across the country. 🧡   #ASPCA

Match Made in Heaven: Suspected Dogfighting Victim Finds a Home on a Meaningful Anniversary 🥹 When Felicia S. first saw 4-month-old Tulle’s photo online, she couldn't stop thinking about him. Little did she know, that in his short life, this sweet puppy had already endured more cruelty than any animal ever should. Just months earlier, Tulle had been removed from a suspected dogfighting operation in South Carolina, where more than 150 dogs were rescued. The dogs, many of whom were observed with untreated injuries and scarring consistent with dogfighting, were transferred into our care and given the critical care they needed. Felicia kept coming back to Tulle's photos, so she visited the ASPCA facility where he was located and adopted him on July 17, 2025, a date she later realized was the anniversary of her fiancé’s funeral. In honor of the last name she was supposed to have, she renamed Tulle “King.” Today, King is thriving as the true king of the house, filling Felicia’s life with laughter and love. 6-Week-Old Puppy Proves Even the Tiniest Lives Are Worth Fighting For 🐶🩺 When a tiny, six-week-old puppy named Ava was found abandoned at a busy NYC intersection last April, she was in dire need of medical care. An examination revealed Ava was suffering from multiple facial fractures, a misaligned bite and nerve damage that left her unable to blink. She was in excruciating pain. As our teams worked around the clock to stabilize her, she faced a devastating setback: parvovirus, an often fatal disease for unvaccinated puppies. With her severe facial injuries making traditional treatments impossible, Ava’s care became a lot more challenging. But thanks to a relatively new medical treatment, this resilient little fighter beat the virus. After undergoing specialized surgeries to remove a few teeth and her damaged eye, Ava finally became the joyful puppy she was always meant to be. Today, Ava is thriving in a safe, loving home where she is cherished every single day. To read Ava’s full story, visit the link in our bio! #ASPCA #HappyTail
