One of my favorite parts of publishing on Royal Road? Watching readers build theories together. Sometimes they make connections even I didn't see. #Appalachia #AppalachianFiction #MountainMystery #SmallTownMystery #RuralNoir #TheDevilOnKlackMountain

Royal Road isn't just for LitRPG. It's for readers who love serial stories. Mysteries. Cliffhangers. Theories. That's exactly how I want readers to experience The Devil on Klack Mountain. #NolanKeller #TheDevilOnKlackMountain #JackAdkins #Thriller #Mystery #Suspense #RoyalRoad

I started writing a thriller to teach myself better pacing. I thought the hard part would be the action. But the hard part is figuring out who Nolan becomes once he knows the truth. Hitting my character with something heavy and seeing how he reacted. Have you ever had a character's reaction to a crisis really surprise you?

The Devil on Klack Mountain is part of a FREE Thriller promotion right now. Searching for an action-packed thrill ride or a twisty whodunnit?? Look no further! These mystery, thriller, and suspense writers have teamed up to bring you these FREE books! Scoop them up today!

When I'm feeling bored or stuck, I change up what I'm writing. I'm lucky to have both Dorwine and Nolan Keller to switch between. Going back to Nolan Keller tonight was intense! The RPMs on this story are in the red. I hope you enjoyed the latest chapter! If you haven't checked it out yet, "The Devil on Klack Mountain" is being released slowly on RoyalRoad. Sometimes, the voice makes the difference. I can't imagine Harry Dresden without James Marsters. I'm 14% through a perfectly good book I can't finish. The narrator is ruining it for me. Who are your favorites? These are some I found mentioned on Reddit that I agree with. We are talking fantasy here, so no Scott Brick. Top-Tier Fantasy Narrators Steven Pacey: Famous for his incredible range and character differentiation in The First Law series. He is so good at portraying characters . Michael Kramer: A go-to for Brandon Sanderson's vast worlds, bringing epic scale to life. He also does a fine turn on the Dragons of Dorwine. Tim Gerard Reynolds: Beloved for Riyria Revelations and Red Rising, known for pacing and energy. His Keeper Chronicles by JA Andrews are wonderful work. Simon Vance: A versatile narrator for many fantasy series, praised for epic feel. Back and forth for me. I love Salvatore and do ok with Vance. Kate Reading: Known for her work on The Wheel of Time alongside Michael Kramer, providing rich texture. Codex Alera is wonderful work by Kate, as well as all of her work on JA Andrews's stuff. Jim Dale: The iconic voice for the original US Harry Potter audiobooks, creating distinct characters. This narration blew me away. Who did I miss?

What things do you read that you go--Nope! And just put the book down? Anything graphically sexual or unnecessarily vulgar turns me off, but the worst thing for me is bad research. What makes you cringe and stop reading a book? As an author, I love hearing these kinds of things. I have avoided books set in Appalachia or in Alaska because I've read too many books that misrepresent those cultures or make caricatures of them. When I see something like this, it's almost always a DNF. Some have stumbled early on, only to recover (thinking of Chris Hauty 's Haley Chill character), and some are superb . Marc Cameron does this so well with his representation of native culture in Alaska, and the native people. He has a gentle stroke when painting these portraits in his Arliss Cutter series of novels. So good.

Have you ever thought about the moment your love for reading began? Was it a book that transported you to another world, or someone whose passion for literature was infectious? As an author, I'm curious about what sparked your reading journey. Sharing these stories celebrates our unique paths and connects us through our love for books. Your story might inspire others and lead you to your next favorite read. Let's explore these special memories together!
