The biggest thing I wish I knew before going to the Georgia Aquarium: give yourself WAY more time than you think you need. 🐡 It’s basically a bunch of different aquariums in one. There are huge ocean tanks with whale sharks and manta rays, belugas, jellyfish, penguins, sea lions, dolphins, sharks, tropical fish, alligators and so many different sections that you can easily spend several hours here. They also have dolphin and sea lion presentations included with admission, but seating is limited and you need to reserve your time, so don’t wait until you’re already walking around to figure that part out. Now through September 30, kids ages 3–12 get in FREE with every paid General Admission ticket! We found a build your own ramen spot with an entire wall of noodles and toppings to choose from 🍜 You pick your noodles, add whatever toppings you want and cook it yourself at the noodle cooking stations. They also have dumplings, Korean snacks, drinks and ice cream. One thing I definitely wish I knew before we went, there are only FOUR tables. If you need a date night that isn’t just dinner, add this one to the list 🕯️ We went to White Street Candle Bar and made our own candle from start to finish. You pick your vessel, choose your wick, smell through all of the different fragrance options and blend whatever scents you want together. Then you measure everything out, melt your wax, add your fragrance and pour it yourself. There are FIVE giant trolls hidden throughout Dorothea Dix Park, and we found all of them! 🌳 🧌 If you want to find all five without driving around the park trying to figure out where to go, this is the order I’d do them: 📍 Flowers Cottage / Flowers Field - 2 trolls 2105 Umstead Dr, Raleigh, NC 27603 📍 Dix Park Dog Park / Big Field - 2 trolls 1800 Umstead Dr, Raleigh, NC 27603 📍 The Grove - 1 troll Dorothea Dix Park - The Grove You can also do this route backwards - the important part is starting at one end instead of the Dog Park which is in the middle. They’re completely FREE to visit, parking is free, and the park is open from dawn to dusk. Heritage Donuts is easily one of my favorite spots for donuts in the area 🍩 Everything is made fresh daily, with a good mix of the classics and more unique flavors that rotate throughout the case. 🥓 The only catch is you need to go early. They sell through flavors pretty quickly, so the selection gets smaller as the day goes on and they’ll often sell out completely before closing. Ponce City Market was easily one of my favorite stops in Atlanta. Avalon in Alpharetta has tons of shops, restaurants, coffee spots, and places to grab something sweet, all in one walkable area. Centennial Olympic Park is such an easy stop if you’re spending time in downtown Atlanta. You’ve got the Olympic rings, fountains, playgrounds, SkyView Atlanta right nearby, and plenty of space to just take a walk. Louisiana Bistreaux in Atlanta actually impressed me. I’m pretty hard to please when it comes to food, but everything we ordered was good enough that I’d get it again. The Cloud Chamber sounded way cooler than it actually was 🛖 It’s basically a dark room with a faint projection of the trees outside, and after a mini hike to get there, I was very underwhelmed. The rest of the NCMA park absolutely redeemed the trip though. The musical swings, real beehives, trails, and herb garden were all way more fun to explore. Go for the park.
