(24/31) SENEGAL 🇸🇳 Senegal, known as the “Gateway to Africa,” is a country deeply rooted in Teranga -the spirit of hospitality, generosity, warmth and community. For this piece, I wanted to bring that spirit to life through four silhouettes gathered around a shared bowl of fruit — a simple moment, but one that speaks of togetherness, sharing and the beauty of coming together. The flowing colours from the face into the scene represent connection ; a gateway leading us into a culture where people, food and stories are shared. #chebarts #blackhistorymonth #fyp #creativemakeup #bodyart

(23/31) LESOTHO 🇱🇸 My execution on this 🙆🏽‍♀️ its alright 🤷‍♀️😅 For Lesotho, I wanted to focus on something that feels deeply connected to Basotho identity the Basotho blanket. Rather than simply painting a blanket pattern, I wanted the artwork to become the blanket. I painted it flowing and wrapping around the body, almost as though it is embracing and protecting the person wearing it. I incorporated the Basotho hats within the blanket design, while the mountains of Lesotho rise around the neck connecting the clothing, the people and the land. The blanket is more than something to keep warm. It is a powerful part of Basotho culture and identity, worn with pride and passed through generations. (22/31) REPUBLIC OF CONGO 🇨🇬 For this one, I chose the gorilla and the vast forests of the Republic of Congo. 🌿🦍 The forests of Congo are home to incredible biodiversity, including the western lowland gorilla, and they represent so much more than just a landscape they are a vital part of the country’s natural heritage. I wanted the gorilla to emerge from the forest, almost as if the two are one a reminder of the deep connection between wildlife, nature and the land. (21/31) SÃO TOMÉ. and PRÍNCIPE 🇸🇹 Honestly, I had never heard of this country before until it came up in my mystery random pick for countries. 😅 I was so fascinated learning about São Tomé and Príncipe, but what really caught my attention was the Tchiloli tradition. Tchiloli is a traditional form of theatre that has been performed in São Tomé for generations. It combines drama, music, dance, elaborate costumes and masks, and tells the story of a murder case involving members of a royal family. What I found especially interesting is how this tradition has taken a story with European origins and transformed it into something deeply rooted in São Toméan culture. That’s why I chose the mask to represent Tchiloli, with the weighing scale symbolising the murder trial and the idea of justice. I’m honestly so glad I started this project because every country has been teaching me something I didn’t know before. And this is exactly why I love art sometimes you start with a painting and end up discovering a whole new part of the world. See you on the next one🇸🇹🇸🇹 #chebarts #bodyart #blackhistorymonth #fyp #creativemakeup

(20/31) ANGOLA 🇦🇴 What if a national symbol could tell more than one story? For Angola, I incorporated the star, machete and cogwheel from the national flag, each carrying a deeper meaning. The star represents international solidarity and progress, the machete symbolises the struggle for agricultural production, and the cogwheel represents workers and industrial production. But I wanted to tell another story, too. I transformed the star into a window, inviting you to look inside and discover the beauty of Angola’s dance culture. Within it, a dancer emerges against the evening sky, inspired by the rhythm and spirit of Kizomba. The red, black and yellow flow through the artwork, while the geometric patterns bring the face and body together. For me, this is what the Living Canvas is about: looking beyond the flag, understanding its symbols, and discovering the stories, culture and identity they hold. model @myrrh_diamodel Thank you ♥️ #chebarts #bodyart #blackhistorymonth #fyp #angola

(19/31) SOUTH SUDAN 🇸🇸 I wanted this piece to feel like more than a flag on a body. The land is shaped by the Nile; a river that flows through the landscape, connecting people, communities and generations. The silhouette standing within it represents the people of South Sudan: carrying stories, resilience and a deep connection to the land they call home. The flag sits at the centre because, beyond borders and history, a nation is ultimately its people. This is South Sudan, seen through my Living Canvas♥️🇸🇸 #chebarts #bodyart #blackhistorymonth #creativemakeup #fyp

(17/31) BURKINA FASO 🇧🇫 For Burkina Faso, I wanted to tell a story of breaking free from the shadows of the colonial era and looking towards a new chapter. The hand emerging from within the flag represents strength, resistance and a people pushing forward, while the star shining through symbolises hope the light at the end of the tunnel. A visual representation of a nation seeking to reclaim its identity, its direction and its future. Burkina Faso — rising, resisting and rewriting its story. ##burkinfaso #chebarts #bodyart #fypシ❤️💞❤️

(15/31) ZIMBABWE 🇿🇼 From the ancient stone walls of Great Zimbabwe to the iconic Zimbabwe Bird, this piece brings together symbols of Zimbabwe’s history, heritage and living culture. The stone walls represent Great Zimbabwe: an extraordinary pre-colonial African civilisation whose legacy continues to stand. The Zimbabwe Bird connects the artwork to one of the country’s most powerful national symbols. Beneath it, the mbira represents Zimbabwe’s musical heritage with the bird standing as if it is bringing the instrument to life. And flowing around them are the colours of the Zimbabwean flag connecting the past with the Zimbabwe of today. 🇿🇼 Ancient roots. Living rhythm. A heritage that continues to speak. (11/31) MOROCCO 🇲🇦 A story Written in Symbols From the Amazigh symbols that carry generations of identity, to the warm colours of the Sahara, Morocco holds a rich tapestry of history, culture and resilience. For this piece, I brought Morocco onto the face through an Amazigh-inspired symbol, surrounded by the flowing forms of the desert dunes, a tribute to a heritage that continues to speak across generations. Africa is not one story. It is many stories, many cultures, many identities and I’m painting them one canvas at a time. #chebarts #bodyart #blackhistorymonth #africathroughlivingcanvas #faceart

(9/31) UGANDA 🇺🇬 For Uganda, I imagined the country as a large water basin, holding two of its most significant waters : the Nile and Lake Victoria. At the centre, the Grey Crowned Crane, Uganda’s national bird, becomes a symbol of beauty, identity and pride, walking across the land and water that help define the country. A living canvas inspired by Uganda’s landscapes, wildlife and connection to water. (8/31) Côte d’Ivoire 🇨🇮 For Côte d’Ivoire, I was inspired by the richness of Ivorian heritage, its masks, woven traditions, colours and architectural beauty. The mask represents the stories and traditions we inherit, while the face underneath reminds us that behind every culture is a people, a history and an identity. And holding The Treasures felt like the perfect touch because some of Africa’s greatest treasures are not found in gold, but in its people, culture, stories and heritage. 🤎 Celebrating Black History Month by discovering Africa, one living canvas at a time. “the treasures beneath a Mask” #reel #chebarts #blackhistorymonth #ivorycoast #bodyart

(6/31) TANZANIA 🇹🇿 Continuing my journey through Africa for Black History Month. A glimpse of Tanzania, living within the canvas For Tanzania, I wanted to bring the landscape inside the body — as though we are looking through an opening into the heart of Tanzania. The Maasai silhouette stands looking towards the mountain, while the spear becomes the flagpole carrying the Tanzanian flag. The mountain( Mt. Kilimanjaro ) represents the strength and beauty of the land, while the figure represents the people and cultural heritage that make Tanzania what it is.
