I was going to share my top 3 mastering plugins today, but I couldn't leave out the the last one.🥵 1️⃣ UAD API 2500 (Spark) If you need glue, this thing has it and then some. The UAD Spark version is easily the best emulation out there. Why? Standard emulations restrict you to 2:1, 4:1, or 6:1 ratios, but UAD gives you 1.5:1 and 3:1, plus a variable release and a dry/wet mix. It takes your standard 30ms attack / 0.1s release setup and makes it incredibly adaptable for complex grooves. 2️⃣ FabFilter Pro-Q 2 The ultimate all-rounder EQ. 💡 Pro-tip: I use this exclusively in Linear Phase mode. It’s crucial because it ensures you don't mess up the phase in your low end. Throwing a dynamic band on there is also a lifesaver for accenting a kick or taming an unruly sub. 3️⃣ Standard Clip My absolute secret weapon. It costs about 20 bucks and is easily one of the best clippers I own. Straight up S-tier. If you have transients popping out, you can clip them to boost the musicality of your API 2500 glue compression. It’s also incredible for soft-clipping a drum bus or as a final hard clipper right before your limiter. 4️⃣ iZotope Maximizer Highly underrated and overlooked. This thing sounds like pure bliss in the IRC IV modes. My personal favorite is "Modern" — just push it until you hit 1 to 2dB of max gain reduction. (Psst: you can push it to 4dB in Modern, but I don't like doing that on Techno). Aim for a target around 4 RMS and let it do its magic. This week is week 18. 🖤 I actually produced this track a week ago and wanted to premiere it on some SC channels… but they didn’t respond. I guess I’m just too fast for them 😅 This track is about patterns of greed—how different phases in our society create this never-ending cycle of wanting, resting, and then demanding again. I started by trying to recreate something more synth-based, driven these days by artists like @future.666 and @uberkikz. But somewhere along the way, I found myself in my own cycle of greed, producing just to get their attention. That’s when I decided to take a step back, bring in my own style and sound, and reflect on what I was really trying to do. That’s how the name came together.
