Wowzer. A bit ragged today after a night of poor sleep. It just wasn’t possible to bring myself down from the high of last night’s show. We were all simply blown away by the great gale of love and good feeling that came blasting across the stage from minute one. It was soooo loud, remarkable. Thank you Dublin for a thunderous show that none of us will ever forget. Headed back to the UK now with our hearts 8 miles high and our ears still ringing. What a week we’ve just had. Go on the Green! 🍀🙌🏻🍀

Well Hello There 👋🏻 A gentle reminder that The Past & Present Tour has a future! In just a couple of months from now it will be gig o’clock once again, and I’ll be heading out with my amazing band for a celebratory summer trip around some amazing venues across the UK and Ireland. Songs from right across the back catalogue mixed in with a few from recent album Dear Life, and with the odd unexpected cover version thrown in for good measure. It’s going to be a blast. Nightjar taking flight The Life in Slow Motion recording sessions at the Church Studios 2003 - 2005, were a super intense and super creative period, and the final record of just 10 tracks was a scant representation of the forty plus songs that were recorded. Nightjar - released March 27th - is a painstakingly curated musical document of 19 unreleased songs from that time, that all sprang from a deep dive into the archives. It provides a much fuller view of the tension, restless energy, and creative curiosity that powered these recording sessions. It never felt right leaving it all on the cutting room floor. The lead out track from the Nightjar album “When I Fall In Love“ is available on all digital streaming platforms on Febuary 20th. Preorder Nightjar vinyl at the link in bio.

Curlews in da House I was at the House of Lords today to witness the long awaited unveiling of the UK Curlew Action Plan. This is a potentially significant moment for the fortunes of Britain’s curlews, and has been many years in the making. It now remains to be seen whether the appointed curlew task force can convert all the good will and the evidence based recommendations into the kind of landscape scale change that is needed if iconic birds like the curlew are going to stage a recovery. Like anyone with a passion for the natural world, I wish them all the very best.

Morning meditations Thoughts on geese in fog. Is their urgent calling more than just the usual in-flight conversation? Do I detect a note of disagreement about the direction in which they are currently heading - similar in tone to the lively in-car discussions often had amongst various members of my own family about the quality of my driving, general control freakery, and frequent inability to deal with even the slightest disruption when moving from A to B? Is it possible the geese are also employing the calling as a form of sonar, helping them to map their immediate surroundings and distance from the ground etc? This in the same way that cetaceans might send clicks out in order to map the marine environment and the shape of the ocean floor.🤔 Utter nonsense or am I onto something?
