When The Smoke Clears Written by @Jewel E. Ann NOW LIVE I have been waiting for Will and Everleigh’s story, and Jewel E. Ann did not disappoint. Everleigh is such a beautifully complex, multilayered character. The more I learned about her and the more her story unfolded, the more I just wanted to wrap her in a hug. There is so much beneath the surface with her. Seeing what it means to be a prodigy, and beginning to understand the weight and expectations that can come with that, absolutely broke my heart for her. And then there’s Will. Will is the kind of man who lives life the way he wants. He’s an amazing friend, a great uncle, and someone who loves the people in his life deeply. But he also needed someone who would challenge him—and Everleigh was absolutely that person. I loved their dynamic and how they pushed each other in ways neither of them expected. The grief in this book was also handled so beautifully. Having lost my own father, I felt incredibly connected to Will and the way he experienced his grief. There were moments where I understood exactly what he was feeling, and that made his story hit me on such a personal level. Jewel E. Ann once again delivers an emotional and beautifully written story about grief, love, healing, and second chances. She reminds us that happily-ever-afters aren’t always easy. Rhys & Jamie are hockey teammates who dislike each other. But now they are forced to work together for the better of the team. Carmen Wilder wrote a beautiful love story that deals with trauma, healing and love. Wilder did an amazing job peeling the layers of what these two men are dealing with. She blends the past & present effortlessly. Right from the get go you are pulled in with Rhys & Jamie and wondering what their trauma is and how they will begin to heal and have the love they both deserve. I absolutely loved Jamie and Rhys. They are complex characters and I loved how Wilder didn’t make the healing journey easy. It doesn’t happen overnight and mistakes and choices are made because of the trauma even when you know in your heart what you truly want. If you’re looking for a MM hockey romance that gives you the emotions, beautiful characters, wonderful writing, and have you till the very end, then Still is a book you must check out.
