A realisation I had today on my way to rehearsal… 🥹🫶🏻 People don’t talk enough about how being D/deaf affects the way we navigate the world we live in today. The little things that others do without a second thought can take so much extra energy from us. It’s a daily struggle that can be mentally, physically and emotionally exhausting, even on the days when we don’t show it. That’s why these little changes matter. Being seen, being considered, being included. It might seem small to some, but to us, it can mean everything. We’re constantly adapting to a world that wasn’t built with us in mind. We deserve more than just learning to cope with it. Sometimes you need a day to yourself… Honestly…today was one of those days. I cancelled my plans and took the day off. I needed a day where I didn’t have to worry what people said, or what I missed and being in constant survival mode. It doesn’t happen often but I try to listen to my body when I can. Recently my body made me listen, so I’m trying to do a little better without feeling too guilty.
