i will forever defend dean and it makes me so sad to see how many people hate him and don’t get his character. beneath all the bravado and sarcasm is a man who has always put everyone else ( especially sam ) before himself. from the moment their mother died, dean was forced to grow up too fast, becoming a protector and a soldier long before he ever had the chance to be a kid and he never stopped carrying that responsibility. he never got to be a kid or make friends or go to school normally. john forced both him and sam into being hunters, not caring about their dreams. dean always took care of sam, not just physically by keeping him alive but emotionally, believing in him even when sam doubted himself or when the world told him he was dangerous or broken. he spent his entire life being sam’s shield, making sure he was fed, safe, protected, and believed in. he was more of a father to sam than john ever was. he had to carry the weight of being the “reliable one,” the brother who never got to fall apart because someone else always depended on him. it makes me so sad every time when i think about how dean suffered in silence and never told anyone his feelings because he got taught that showing emotions makes you seem vulnerable. yes, dean has flaws ( like every other human btw ) like his anger, recklessness, and self-destructive streak but they don’t make him a bad person, they make him human, shaped by trauma, loss, and difficult choices. dean proves his loyalty, love, and moral core by sacrificing his own happiness, safety, and even his soul if it means saving the people he loves. it’s so sad how his mistakes are often used against him. they literally come from desperation and trauma, not cruelty or selfishness. over and over, dean chose sacrifice over self-preservation, proving that his core trait isn’t violence or anger, but loyalty. he loves so deeply, protects and sacrifices, and always keeps fighting, not because he thinks he deserves saving, but because the people he loves do. dean, you will always always always be loved so deeply by me #deanwinchester #deanwinchestersoftedit #supernatural #softedit #jensenackles
