Can u believe these are the people that made this song 😭 @bodyimage @JAYDEN HAMMER #newsong

10 years ago today I put out my first song ever. It was called Wonder Boy….I made it in my friends garage in east los, doing single takes with a shitty mic and high on a couple things I should not mention. Most of my friends were rappers at the time. We were kind of a little collective but I was the odd one out. I rapped too but only because I felt I had to be tough and compete with my peers who were all men. But I was good at it. Great at it really and I could sing to so a lot of my early music I did both. I was very three 6 mafia influenced, I was angry, lost and depressed. Navigating adult spaces and trying to get myself in any studio I could because I had something to say, chronically, and music was my therapy. I’d been writing since I was 5 and singing my whole life. I was kicked out of choir and later tried to get into an arts school for vocals that did not accept me. I dropped out after one year of high school to work a ton of jobs and try to make music. I knew what I wanted. And though my parents had no means of helping me that wasn’t gonna stop me. I went after this with all I had. I ran in circles I should not have for a long time, and I lost so many friends to that period. But I kept pushing and I refused to give up. I tried to find myself and my sound and I lost it and found it again and again. I’ve made and lost many friends while trying to do this but I’ve stayed true to myself and rolled with the punches time and time again. I’ve cultivated a fierce and loyal community of fans and friends around the world. You became my reason when I couldn’t be my own. And I will never stop fighting for me and you. For little me and the things she endured to get here. For the art and for the MUSIC. The thing I swear must hold us together through hard times and tragedy. Thank you for reading and you for being a part of my team, team death <3 Rest in peace Terror, Gus, Jaseh + many more. #altgirl #artist #singersongwriter #deathbyromy
