Yes, I follow the Messenger. He delivered the message, and he explains the Quran by pointing back to the Quran. I came to Islam through the Quran alone, before I even knew what a hadith was. And I haven't rejected hadith without looking. I've studied it and spoken with many Muslims who follow it, and I respect them. Being smart and being rational aren't the same thing, and this isn't just a modern psychology concept, the Quran names this exact pattern over and over. Pharaoh's people rejected the signs even though "their souls were convinced of them" (27:14). Iblis had direct knowledge of Allah's command and still chose pride over it. Bal'am was given knowledge and still "clung to the earth and followed his own desire" (7:175-176). Even the People of the Book recognised the truth "as they know their own sons" and still denied it (2:146). Psychologists today call this dysrationalia — being smart enough to know better and still not doing better. The Quran was describing it long before there was a word for it.

To be clear, this isn't about every situation, if someone is causing you harm or you're not safe around them, that's a completely different conversation and none of this applies.
