Your art, whether a scribble or an impressionist masterpiece, contains all sorts of information. It doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned artist or have never picked up a paintbrush; we can all gain insight from our art. The trick is to listen to it. Try not to assign meaning to what you see or assume it means something specific. Quite often our art is coming from something deeper that wants to be expressed and wants to be seen. Sit with your art and notice what you see. Notice how you feel. Walk away and come back to it. Look again. And then write. Have a dialogue with it. Ask questions. “What do you have to tell me?” “Who are you?” It may feel awkward at first, but it’s a great way to tune into things outside of your regular, racing brain. #listentoyourart #expressivearts #brooklyncreatives #brooklyn #makeart
