🎣 Meet the Luderick Also known as blackfish in Australia and parore in New Zealand, luderick have been targeted by anglers for generations — and the basic techniques used to catch them haven’t changed all that much in decades. A few quick facts: 🌿 They’re predominantly vegetarian, feeding on seaweed and sea cabbage around rocks, estuaries and harbour edges. 🎣 They’re one of the best fish for land-based anglers, with plenty of productive spots accessible from shore. 🍽️ And yes — they’re excellent eating when looked after properly. Bleed them straight away, keep them cold, remove the guts then fillet and skin them. One of our favourites? Panko-crumbed luderick with Italian herbs and parmesan, shallow fried. 👌 If you’ve never targeted luderick before, they’re well worth a crack! As the water warms up, the kingfish start firing in Sydney Harbour — and one of the most exciting ways to target them is casting soft plastics tight to structure. 🎣 A 5” @daiwaaustralia Jerkshad rigged on an unweighted 4/0 @gamakatsuaus worm hook is a deadly option around moored boats, rock walls and other areas where kings are hunting bait. The unweighted presentation gives the plastic a natural, erratic action and allows it to hang in the strike zone — perfect for drawing aggressive bites from cruising kingfish.
