In 1904, a circus elephant was publicly hanged in front of 2,000 people. Her name was Mary. She killed a handler who struck her during a parade. And instead of investigating, the circus made a decision— They would execute her publicly… with a crane. The first attempt failed. The chain snapped. They tried again. This time, it worked. Children were in the front row. It wasn’t justice. It was revenge theater. And it really happened. The photos are real. The crowd was real. And the horror? Still hard to believe.
