Last week, we celebrated Luke’s start to his 7th year around the sun 🥳☀️ And when I say this child is pure magic, it’s because he’s pure magic. ✨ I don’t know how we got here already?! 7 years old ALREADY? Crazy. I could say so many wonderful things about my son, but one of his best qualities is that he NEVER complains. 🙌🏻 Not at football games. Not at grocery stores. Not at doctors’ offices. Not in the car. Not about baths. Not about restaurants. When I say he’s just happy to be included, I honestly mean it. He is such a selfless person at such a young age. The only time he might be annoyed is over homework. 🫠 But I can relate to that! 😅 I’m so proud of the character this kid is building. He’s so observant and asks great questions, too. Some of my best conversations have been with a now-7-year-old. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m totally here for it, though. Happy birthday again, Lukie! Five years ago today, I lost my girl. 💔 Padmé was only four days away from turning 16. I can’t believe it’s been five years. And honestly, some days it doesn’t feel like five years at all. It feels like yesterday. I remember the heartbreak. I remember having to say goodbye when all I wanted was more time. She had been with me for almost 16 years. Through so many chapters of my life, she was there. She wasn’t just my dog. She was my little shadow, my comfort, my family, my first daughter, and a piece of my heart. And losing her left a hole that I still feel. I miss her little face. I miss her presence. I miss knowing she was there. I miss the version of my life where Padmé was still in it. Her birthday is September 12th. She should have turned 16. Instead, five years ago today, I had to let her go😞 I wish I could have had just one more day. One more cuddle. This is so important! 📢 I always tell my kids they have the right to feel however they want to feel. However, they DO NOT have the right to project it on anyone. Feel angry. Be frustrated. Be disappointed. Be hurt. All of those feelings are valid. But how you choose to treat people while you’re feeling those things is still your responsibility. We can teach our kids that they don’t have to suppress their emotions, while also teaching them that emotions are not an excuse for cruelty, disrespect, or hurting someone else. You can be angry and still be kind. You can be hurt and still be respectful. You can need space without punishing someone for it. Feel everything. Can I tell you what I was thinking about the other morning on my dog walk? Too bad. Keep scrolling if uninterested. So, I was walking the dogs early in the morning to try and beat the heat because once the Cali sun hits…it’s relentless ☀️ I was listening to my beats 🎧 and heard a song come on and the singer was telling a story about our different stages of life. It got to a part where they were singing, we shouldn’t be sad about aging but grateful for having the privilege of watching our kid’s kids(grandchildren) grow up. I really felt that perspective. I thought it was a beautiful silver lining…. And then I started thinking more deeply. Yes, I do realize we most likely will never know his children. Yes, I was told how ‘selfish’ I was when I was 42 and pregnant. By many. And I was already pregnant 👉🏻keyword. An “unexpected gift” I was clearly given. So needless to say, the comments, texts, calls, and messages were hurtful. Maybe my story was never meant to be about meeting his children. Maybe my role is to give him the memories and life lessons he’ll pass down after I’m gone. The laughter. The traditions. The adventures. So today, I’m choosing to be fully here. Because one day, when he misses me, I hope he doesn’t just remember that I loved him. I hope he remembers how it felt to be loved. And that’s a legacy that doesn’t have an expiration date ♥️

PART: 11! Has anyone else missed this series?! Presley is 23 and Luke is 6. They are literally playing with an older and younger version of themselves 🥺 Even still, a 17 year age gap hasn’t changed their dynamic.
