You walk through the tunnel, climb the stairs and reach a room with windows looking out across the Humber, offering a fantastic view from what would have been a useful defensive position. Fort Paull has a fascinating military history, with its origins dating back to the Napoleonic era when coastal defences were built to protect the Humber from potential invasion.
