Have you ever wondered why people cut the end off of a brand new spool of filament? It's not because the filament is bad. That Ben end is actually what keeps the spool together during shipping. The problem is that kink can actually get caught in your filament path or make it harder for the extruder to feed smoothly. So before we load a new roll, we always just cut that section off. It only wastes about an inch or two of filament, but it can actually save you from a surprisingly amount of annoying feeding problems later.
