My lovely standing frame from @easystand_mn and I finally reunited and it feels sooo good! #ad There are so many benefits to standing and as a incomplete paraplegic I benefit from them all! To name a few: 1. Great for CIRCULATION 2. Helps with muscle spasms and muscle tightness 3. Helps bladder and bowel function 4. Bounce….. To the floor when she walk*** 🥹😅 But for wheel, don’t EVER feel like a failure when things don’t go as planned. I know falling doesn’t make me a failure and I’ve learned over the last 6 years being a wheelchair user that it’s all trial and error really. You won’t know the outcome unless you at least try. No doctor or physical therapist recommended I get a walker nor did they ever suggest I try and walk at home. My body told me to try so I found an old walker at goodwill and tried to walk. To my surprise I was able to do it, not perfect in anyway but I wasn’t nor do I ever aim for perfection. I aim for what my heart and body is telling me it can handle and I go from there. My advice? Do not be afraid to try NEW things. (Side note it’s best to have a spotter near to catch you if you fall) I attempted to walk by myself after not walking for 3 months and being back on muscle relaxers and I did fall but ya girl got back up and I succeeded the next time ♿️ I know I’ve shared a similar video but I really do think it’s so important for other people with mobility restrictions to see that even the ones who look like they have it all together struggle. If you look closely you can see how much flatter my right foot is and how my left foot is more on its tippy toe and tends to bend in sideways, the surgery I had will correct that and make it so it’s flat and in the correct position like my right foot! I can wait to be able to stand and take some steps to see how everything feels! You gave me wings when I needed to learn to fly and I’ll forever give you the world, the universe and whatever else is out there! Side note, this was my first walk since my surgery in May and it felt so good! Now I can start getting in my standing frame and really get my body back in order! I was initially healing and doing well after a spine surgery in February but then unfortunately suffered a fracture and things went down hill quick after that. Out with the old in with the new! Let’s build my new shower bench together! I have been MIA lately life got wheel and busy! We had to move on a short notice so I’ve been so busy trying to get everything together again! Moving can be so stressful! I’m adapting to the new house and making it as accessible as I can for myself, starting with a new shower bench!! My shower chair was too big for the bathtub and having the bench style will make transferring into the tub way easier for me! P.S. I really want to design my own line of shower benches, chairs, grab bars ect and stay away from the greys and blues and hospital looking equipment.
