Celebrating 32 years of Make Him Do Right — my third album for Warner Bros. ❤️ 1994 was special because I reunited with Babyface, who penned two songs on the album, including one that has remained a fan favorite: “Can I Stay With You.” I still remember the first time he played me the demo. I thought, Ooh… this is sexy. 😏 So much of my music has been about giving women a voice, saying the things women feel, want, and sometimes need to say. And yes, over the years I’ve heard that I’m “pro-woman” or even that I’m the one always telling the man what he needs to do. 😂 But “Can I Stay With You” showed another side of me. It was softer. Vulnerable. A woman feeling safe enough with a man to let her guard down and simply say, I want to stay with you. It was my way of paying homage to the man, in a sexy, soulful way. 32 years later, this song still feels just as good. “Can I Stay With You” ❤️
