stop forcing people to be managers just for them to grow in their career
a good IC doesnt guarantee a good manager.
Transcript
I saw this post on Blind's Instagram. And as a strategy and operations person who is a career coach, I have long said that companies need to figure out a way for people to grow without having to manage people. Because we do not need people being managers who don't wanna be a manager. It's too important of a job. And it is a whole separate job and skill set. Just because you are a good I C. Does not mean you will be a good manager. Sometimes it happens and often it doesn't. And a lot of companies don't give support to managers. There's not a lot of education and training, and they still have to do their I C. Work on top of managing people, which again, is a whole separate job and a different skill set. And the replacement, or the idea that you can just get rid of all the managers and replace it with A I, that's also got a solution, and I'll get into that in another video. The real solution here is really thinking about the structure of a company. And that would require things like foresight, planning, accountability, not just doing layoffs to correct stocks when things go wrong. You know, things that people really don't wanna make eye contact with. So we get stuck in this. The cycle, in this loop. And you've got managers who don't wanna manage, teams who are impacted by managers who don't wanna manage. And then You add the layer of constant layoff, fear, structural instability within these companies, and things are a hot mess.
