In the race with Portugal for the sea route to India as part of the India trade, Columbus wanted to open up the route to the west. The destination of his first voyage of discovery was the port city of Quinsay in China, which in the parlance of the time was part of India. On his four voyages of discovery between 1492 and 1504, Columbus primarily headed for the Greater Antilles, including Hispaniola (now Haiti and the Dominican Republic) on all four voyages, where he founded his first colonies. It was only on his fourth trip that he set foot on the American mainland in what is now Honduras. Throughout his life, Columbus did not realize that he was dealing with a previously unknown continent. This view was first advocated by Amerigo Vespucci, after whom the New World was eventually named America. The first explorers of America were the ancestors of the indigenous population of America, who long ago invaded the previously deserted continent from Asia (see Settlement of the Americas). In addition, North America was visited around 500 years before Columbus by Leif Eriksson and other Vikings, who also settled there for a time. If Columbus is still considered the most important European discoverer of America today, this is because it was his voyages that led to the permanent colonization and settlement of the American double continent by Europeans and people from other continents in historical times. #patrickbateman #americanpsycho #dexter #homelander #theboys #aaronpaul #jessepinkman #breakingbad #bradpitt #fightclub
