I’m a recovering judgmental person. 🤍 One thing I do daily to keep judgment from operating through me is pause and examine what I actually know about a person. Whether it’s someone I know or a celebrity, I think about their upbringing, their environment, what they’ve experienced, and what I may not know. Then I try to put myself in their shoes—not as the person I am today, but as the person I was back then. Because sometimes we think we’re just venting or “calling it like we see it,” when really, we’re judging. And judgment can come from an arrogant, self-centered place: “I wouldn’t do that, so they shouldn’t either.” But who said my way is the right way? 😭 That’s where grace comes in. And giving it is a lot easier said than done. You can want to, try to, and genuinely mean to, but still fall short because you don’t know how to see things from someone else’s point of view.
