Won my first parents race 15 years ago when my eldest son was in kindy. Now I’m 44 with two younger daughters and haven’t run or done anything active in bloody years 😂 Can’t have my older kids seeing dad win and the younger ones just getting some old bloke who needs a minute after getting off the floor. I was quick as a kid, done little a’s and nippers and played footy. Unfortunately I still think I’m that bloke until I actually try moving. They call the dads up and all these young blokes get straight over there, confident as fck with their running shoes and fancy calf muscles and quads. I’m standing there wondering if I’ve got another pair of legs at home and how long it’s been since I had an ass. But I’m a parents race veteran mate. I know what’s going on here. There’s heaps of dads so there’s gotta be heats, and I’ve never seen them bother putting us through to a final. I just need to win one race 😂 So I hang back with the dads who don’t wanna be there and have been bullied into it by the family. Get myself in heat 3. First heat goes and fuck me I’m glad I stayed out of that. Would’ve done a hammy trying to come last. Second heat goes and they’re slow. Now I’m thinking I’ve stuffed it. Spent all this time picking a bloody queue and still got it wrong. My turn now. Another thing I know from experience is they don’t call you back if you jump the gun a little 😂 Plus these days there’s a good second or two between my brain saying go and my legs getting the message. So I take off a bit early, it somehow ends up being a perfect start and I motor my way to victory. Probably the most physical activity I’ve done in years and it’s all because I couldn’t handle losing to someone’s dad. Fun fact about Chelsea: She loves climbing trees still. About a decade ago just after I met Chelsea we were at Airlie Beach and we had a few. She seen a tree in the distance and took off running towards it saying I’m going to climb that tree. She got a fair bit ahead of me but I seen her go up the tree she then disappeared in the branches. As I arrived to the tree I hear a big thud and crash. She fell from a few meters high scraped all of her side on the way down to the ground. I heard all the wind get knocked out of her and she gets up laughing. #tree #climber #chelsea #sydneyredgum
