so, this song is one of my favourites by ethel and i’ve wanted to edit reed900 to it for so long. @el 🌟 did it already, and if you haven’t seen their edit then please do, because it’s insanely good and it’s more from gavin’s perspective, which is really cool. here i put nines in the centre, and i’ll explain why, because yeah why not? so… “i tried to be good, am i no good?” nines only knows one path. he only knows how to be a detective. and yes, originally he was programmed to hunt his own kind, so he doesn’t do that now. nines tries to make a change, to twist his own programming into making something good instead of hurting anyone. because that’s all he knows. maybe it’s a blank page, but is it really without any instructions? he knows what he can do best, and it’s analysing clues to solve cases. but is it really what he wants? how can nines even know what he wants when he hasn’t tried anything else, since it wasn’t what he was designed to do? “i just wanted to be yours.” i like to think that his relationship with gavin was one of the first things nines truly wanted and chose to continue. he could abandon gavin, he could leave him; yet he didn’t. nines’ feelings for gavin, their bond and closeness, weren’t programmed. it wasn’t something nines was built to do or to crave, so that part of him was something he chose and truly loved. nines wasn’t made to feel. every part of his “body” was designed for a different purpose. and being in love, using his hands to touch with care and not with the intention of destroying, was the final act of his deviancy. #detroitevolution #reed900 #rk900 #gavinreed #detroitbecomehuman
