Bat Series - Day 8 It’s the final day of the bat series and today we have the Myotis Capaccinii, also known as the Long-Fingered Bat. This bat is native to coastal areas around the Mediterranean Sea and around Iran. This bat is known for its large feet and prominent nostrils. Sadly this bat has been listed as vulnerable as its population is drastically decreasing. I hope you have all enjoyed finding out more about these incredible creatures and enjoyed watching me paint them! Thank you so much for joining me and I’ll see you soon for another series #lucylocksart #artist #bats #artwork #watercolours

Bat Series - Day 7 It’s day 7 of the Bat series and today we have the Myotis Mystacinus, commonly known as the Whiskered Bat. A small bat usually found around water and is primarily a European species. The pose of this bat is so beautiful, I love seeing the full underside of the body with its intricate arms and fluffy stomach. I am hoping this series is showing the beauty of bats to those that are less keen on them! See you soon for the last day! #lucylocksart #artist #bats #artwork #watercolours

Bat Series - Day 6 Welcome to day 6, today we have the Plecotus Auritus, also known as the Brown Long-eared Bat. Found throughout Europe this bat has very distinctive ears measuring almost 4cm in length. Hunting often by day in the woods, feasting predominantly on moths! I love this bat, and I love the amount of detail I captured in the wings, and the curves and overlaps in their intricate ears. Really pleased with this one and I hope you enjoyed watching. #lucylocksart #artist #bats #batsofinstagram #watercolour

Bat Series - Day 5 Welcome to day 5 of my bat series, today we have the Pteropus Poliocephalus, also known as the Grey-headed Flying Fox. Similar to day 3 however this bat is native to Australia and is their largest bat. With wingspans reaching up to 1m and head that is characteristic to a dog like appearance. I had fun with this one, but it really took a lot of layering to get that transparency in the wings, but love the hints of colour at its tip and texture I managed to achieve. Thank you for watching and I’ll see you soon for day 6! #lucylocksart #artist #bat #artwork #watercolours

Bat Series - Day 4 Hello and welcome to day 4 of my Bat series. Today we have the Myotis Myotis, otherwise known as the greater Mouse-eared Bat. This bat has a broad muzzle and big long ears with black tips and is one of the largest bats in Europe. I really love the expression on this bats face and its little teeth! Hope you’ve enjoyed this one and I shall be back soon with day 5 #lucylocksart #artist #bats #artwork #watercolour

Bat Series - Day 3 It’s Day 3 of the bat series and we have the Pteropus Medius, commonly known as the Indian Flying Fox. Any guesses where it’s native to? One of the largest bats in the world, feeding mainly on ripe fruits and is often regarded as vermin due to its destructive nature towards fruit farms. Its wingspan can be as large as 1.5m!! And can weigh up to 1.6kg, which compared to the Pipistrelle in day 2… is massive! I actually really enjoyed painting this bat, especially showing the sun through its wings making them glow a little. Thank you so much for watching, please stay tuned for day 4. • #lucylocksart #artist #bats #artwork #watercolor

As a small business and creative, there’s a lot of waste when I make products. And In an effort to reduce this waste, I have been collecting all of the scrap Matt sticker paper and patterned paper off cuts, over the last year or so. And on the weekend of @supersecondsfestival , which is the 3rd and 4th October, I will have these little no waste bundles as well as a tonne of slightly defect products on sale for up to 75% off! Perfect for grabbing a bargain, buying gifts and helping to reduce waste whilst shopping small! #nowaste #lucylocksart #smallbusiness #ssfoct2026 #superseconds

Bat Series - Day 2 Welcome back to day 2 of the bat series. Today we have the Pipistrellus Pipistrellus, commonly known as the Common Pipistrelle. One of the most common bats in the British isles, with a wingspan of 18-25cm and weighing as little as 8.5g A cute little bat! I found the wings of this bat quite a challenge with the detail and fine lines. I used short line work to mimic the veins and curvature, and clustered lined to shape its furry tummy. Hope you’ve enjoyed! #lucylocksart #artist #bats #artwork #watercolours

Do you enjoy starting a new sketchbook? Starting a new sketchbook has always been a strange experience. Sometimes I love the endless possibilities, but sometimes I think too much and try and create a theme or specific subject that the sketchbook can only be used for. Which can be very limiting. I’m learning to just do anything in a sketchbook and if it’s good then amazing and if it’s not so good, it’s a learning experience. It’s hard, but worth it when you flick through and remember the moments and feeling you had creating the art. • Thank you to @paulrubensart for gifting me this sketchbook, I can’t wait to keep playing with it. • #lucylocksart #artist #art #artwork #sketchbook

Moth Series - Day 15 It’s day 15 and the final day of the moth series and we have a gorgeous moth today. This is the Macroglossom Stellatarum, commonly known as the Hummingbird Hawk-moth. Resembling hummingbirds, with their long proboscis and hovering! These moths are found across the world, but can look very different depending on where you find them! This is the final day, but if you want to see how these moths turned out as a whole, please stay tuned, or head over to my website. Link in the bio! Thank you for all your support in the series! I’ll see you soon for more! • #lucylocksart #moths #mothseries #mothsandbutterflies #watercolours

Moth Series - Day 14 It’s the penultimate day of the moth series and today we have the Amorpha Juglandis also known as the Walnut Sphinx. Native to North America, this moth gets its name from its very walnut colouring and interestingly, when attacked, this moth will let out a high pitched whistle similar to a bird alarm signal! The Furiness and colouring of this moth was incredibly difficult, but I hope I captured it all correctly. Please let me know! Come back soon for the final day! • #lucylocksart #moths #mothseries #mothsandbutterflies #watercolour

Moth Series - Day 13 Welcome to day 13 of the moth series, this is the Ourapteryx Sambucaria, commonly known as the Swallow-tailed Moth. A very butterfly like Moth found across Europe, which I’m sure you agree is very beautiful! I definitely darkened the colouring a little too much in the painting, but this moth has such fine detail in its wings and little orange lineations that shape the wings perfectly A cute one today! Come back for the penultimate day soon • #lucylocksart #moths #mothseries #mothsandbutterflies #watercolour

Moth Series - Day 12 Welcome to day 12 of the moth series, we have the Phalera Buchanan also known as the Buff-tip Moth today. I’m really excited about this moth as it’s found throughout Europe and when its wings are closed up, it looks just like a little broken branch on a tree. I urge you to go look it up. They’re gorgeous little moths that really trick the eye. This was surprisingly more difficult to paint than I realised as it has very subtle colours and markings and a little sheen to its colouring. But I love it just the same! Come back soon for day 13 • #lucylocksart #moths #mothseries #mothsandbutterflies #watercolours

Moth Series - Day 11 It’s day 11 of the moth series and today we have the Antheraea Polyphemus commonly named the Polyphemus Moth. Found in North America and Canada, this larger moth enjoys forests, orchards and wetlands. Their caterpillar form feeding on a variety of plants including many fruit trees. This moth was so time consuming to paint, and I think i was so bogged down by it that i forgot to film most of it! Anyway, i get a lot of detail in this one and im excited to show you what’s next • #lucylocksart #moths #mothseries #mothsandbutterflies #watercolour

Moth Series - Day 10 Welcome back to day 10 of the moth series. This is the Daphnis Nerii, also known as the Oleander Hawk-Moth. Widely found in Africa, Asia and Hawaii, sometimes found in southern parts of Europe and even England! A beautiful moth full of greens and a slight rose tint. I would be absolutely blown away to see one of these in person. It was a challenge to paint the detail on this one, but I love the outcome and I hope you do too! See you soon for day 11 • #lucylocksart #moths #mothseries #mothsandbutterflies #watercolours

Moth Series - Day 9 It’s day 9 of the moth series. We have the Peridrome Orbicularis, the Broad-winged Tiger Moth. Found commonly across Asia, a smaller sized moth with beautiful colour and intricacy, that took me far too long to paint all its stripes that apparently I forgot to record some of it! Apologies. But I hope you enjoy what you do see! • #lucylocksart #moths #mothseries #mothsandbutterflies #watercolour

Moth Series - Day 8 It’s day 8 of the moth series and we have the Saturnian Pavonia, the small emperor moth. Usually only found in the British isles, its wingspan can range around 60mm and it has the most interesting mottling to its wings. A really challenging moth to paint with loads and loads of layers to try build up the colour and pattern. Had a lot of fun with this one! Moth Series - Day 7 This is the Deilephila Elpenor, also known as the Elephant Hawk-moth which I have had the pleasure of seeing many times in the garden and holding. They chunky little moths with such a bright pink and dusky yellow colouring that they almost don’t look real. Common around Europe, Britain and Canada, they are nocturnal with sensitive eyes that allow them to see colour in low-light. A stunning moth that challenged me to not muddy my watercolours! Moth Series - Day 5 This is the syntomoides imaon commonly known as the handmaiden moth. Found predominantly across Asia, this moth looks almost lethal with its more wasp like body and colouring. Both beautiful and a little creepy! I enjoyed this one as there was subtle detail in the dark black areas and depth to be added to the body. Stay tuned for more • Video description: Lucy is painting the handmaiden moth, found across Asia. Moth Series - Day 4 It’s day 4 of the moth series and this is the Zygaena Filipendulae commonly known as the six-spot burnet. A day flying moth that I often see flitting about and is a common species in Europe. It has a metallic sheen to its wings that can radiate green or blue which was quite difficult to mimic. Really nice to do a moth I have seen in the flesh today! • Video description: Lucy is painting a six spot burnet, a day flying moth in watercolour • #lucylocksart #artist #moths #mothseries #mothsandbutterflies

Do you struggle with feeling creative, or fear a blank page? This is my 2 Month old sketchbook tour. My goal was to create everyday. To see how that improved my art, and it really did. I go into more depth over on my YT channel, but I completed this sketchbook in 2 months. Which compared to my other sketchbooks that took 2-4years to complete, it was quite an accomplishment 😂 It took the pressure away, gave me creativity and fun back when it came to my art. It also provided a perfect warmup for when I complete finer, more polished pieces. I for one, will do it again and I urge you all to start creating everyday. Even if it’s a quick doodle or painting a wash ready for something later. You’ll feel the creativity coming back ♥️ • Video description: Lucy is flipping through her 2 months long sketchbook to showcase the loose art she has created everyday. • #lucylocksart #sketchbooktour #art #artwork #sketchbook

Welcome to our new series, where we paint the natural world! We will be focussing on moths for this series, starting off with Attacus Atlas, the Atlas Moth. Endemic to the forests of Asia, this species is one of the largest with wingspans measuring from 25 to 30 cm. As always, I am using @winsorandnewton watercolours on mixed media paper, building up layers and layers till I can paint all the little furry details! I hope you have enjoyed and I can’t wait to show you the rest of the series! • Video description: Lucy is introducing the new moth series as she paints an Atlas Moth in detail using watercolours. • #lucylocksart #mothseries #mothsofinstagram #moths #watercolour

Some more fun in my sketchbook, this time during my visit to @york_gate_garden Such a beautiful garden, and one of my favourites. I tried to play with colour and pigment markets to mimic the luscious greens. Nothing serious and plenty of play. • Video description: short videos of the York gate gardens with still images of Lucy’s sketchbook, showing quick playful sketches of the scenery. • #lucylocksart #artist #art #artwork #sketchbook

Sublimation has to be the most infuriating practices you can do as an artist/creator. The tentative looks and peaks to see if something has fully printed, had enough pressure or been pressed long enough 😩 But these linen pencil cases are something else. I (think) I finally have it down, but by gosh did I waste a lot of blanks 😭 Little sneak peak at the new design too. These will be updated on the website soon! • Video description: Lucy is tentatively peaking at her sublimated pencil cases under the heat press with final reveal of 4 designs: leaves, whales, jellyfish and moths. • #lucylocksart #smallbusiness #artist #sublimation #pencilcase

New collection launching 24th July 2026! Can you guess? Very excited about this one, it’s been a whirlwind turning this collection around.
