Every year I look forward to August 8. I don’t count the days, but this date will always mean something special to me. Seven years ago today, in 2019, I made a decision to try my hardest to stay sober. I didn’t have a big plan, and I didn’t make any promises. I just had prayers, hope, and a willingness to change. I decided to take my life back, one day at a time. I let go of the one thing that always brought out the worst in me. For a long time, I used alcohol to cope with the things I didn’t want to face. Getting sober meant I finally had to face those things and start doing the work on myself. Seven years later, I’m still doing that work. I’ve learned that healing doesn’t have an ending. There will always be things to learn, things to work through, and ways to grow. Not every day is a good day, but sobriety has taught me how to find gratitude even on the hard ones. Today, I celebrate 7 years sober. ❤️ I celebrate the life I worked hard to build, the addiction I broke free from, and most of all, the person I have become along the way. I’m grateful for the prayers that carried me, the lessons that changed me, and the strength to keep choosing this life one day at a time.
