Simplify and perfect your backswing with these 3 hand path checkpoints! 1️⃣ Hands over ball of trail foot 2️⃣ Hands pass through trail bicep 3️⃣ Hands behind trail shoulder Hitting these checkpoints is MUCH EASIER when you allow your body to fully rotate up to the top of the swing. To ensure you fully rotate, flare out your trail foot at setup about 20° and then change your knee flex during the backswing (lead leg bends, trail leg straightens). You don't HAVE to hit these checkpoints to play great golf, but it's a really nice place to start if your backswing is causing you any issues with contact, distance, or direction (the 3 fundamentals of golf)👍 #golflife #stlouismo #stackandtiltworldwide #mikahwilsongolf #stackandtilt #golfing #losangeles #golftips #golfswing #golftok #golfer #golf #golftiktok #golfislife #golfinstructor #golfcoach #golfinstruction #golfclub #golfaddict #golfr #highlandpark #pasadena #pgatour #lpgatour #golfchannel #golfdigest #livgolf

Quit trying to "help”, or “scoop” the ball up into the air by SWAYING your body back behind it and then FLIPPING your wrists! SWAYING (WEIGHT BACKWARDS) and FLIPPING (BACKWARD SHAFT LEAN) both serve to move the LOW POINT BACK, increasing the chances of hitting ground first, ball second = poor contact/no compression and less distance ❌ Try THIS instead! NO SWAYING (WEIGHT FORWARD) and NO FLIPPING (FORWARD SHAFT LEAN) both serve to move the LOW POINT FORWARD, increasing the chances of hitting ball first, ground second = solid contact/max compression and more distance ✅ How do we fix the SWAYING? Place an alignment stick or noodle 1” away from your trail hip at setup and then simply never run into it How do we fix the FLIPPING? Feel your trail wrist stay bent back for longer through the impact zone A great checkpoint to confirm you are releasing your trail wrist bend at the correct time AND rate is seeing the lead arm and shaft inline at P7.2, with your hands right over your lead leg (P7.0 is impact, so P7.2 is JUST past impact) The ball is on the GROUND and we want it to launch UP into the air, so it's understandable if it seems counterintuitive to present FORWARD SHAFT LEAN at impact, which (1) DE-LOFTS the club and facilitates (2) HITTING DOWN on the ball (all else equal, both would serve to LOWER the launch)…BUT our clubs have plenty of LOFT built into them to still get the ball to launch UP nicely into the air. This lesson is ultimately all about the #1 FUNDAMENTAL of golf, which is LOW POINT CONTROL (SOLID CONTACT)…we MUST hit ball first, ground second to play our best golf! Comment "WEIGHT FORWARD" below and I'll DM you a video with extra details on how to QUICKLY fix this common error👊 #golf #golftips #golfr #mikahwilsongolf #lpga #stlouis #pgatour #stackandtilt #golflesson #golfdrills #golfcoach #golfswing #golflife #golfing #golfer #golftok #golfinstruction #golftiktok

Stop hitting behind the ball INSTANTLY via implementing the @stackandtilt COLUMN! The column extends vertically from the lead ankle. A simple cue to try next time you practice: “Put your lead knee, lead hip and both shoulders into the column at the top" This cue will help you keep your WEIGHT FORWARD ➡️ In the top video...the golfer has swayed the body excessively to the trail side. This led to having the lead knee, lead hip and both shoulders OUTSIDE the column (leading to poor contact via hitting ground first, ball second) ❌ In the bottom video...the golfer has no sway of the body to the trail side. This led to having the lead knee, lead hip and both shoulders INSIDE the column (leading to solid contact via hitting ball first, ground second) ✅ This simple, single swing thought is so effective for players who struggle with excessive sway because it accounts for the position of a LARGE number of body segments (while being EASY to implement)! ⛳️ FOLLOW for more simple golf tips! #golftips #golf #golfr #mikahwilsongolf #lpga #stlouis #pgatour #stackandtilt #golflesson #golftiktok #golfinstruction #golftok #golfer #golfing #golflife #golfswing #golfcoach #golfdrills

Stop "spinning out" your trail foot! This move keeps your WEIGHT BACK ⬅️❌ We want our WEIGHT FORWARD ➡️✅ Why? To help us with fundamental #1 of golf (controlling our low point...hitting ball first, ground second). This is the only way to achieve consistent, solid contact! To fix this common error, you can simply place a water bottle near your trail heel and make swings where you don't hit it and knock it over. The hips SLIDE, ROTATE, and EXTEND in the downswing...they don't JUST ROTATE. We need the SLIDING and EXTENDING of the hips to get the WEIGHT FORWARD enough...again, to control fundamental #1 👍 Comment "WEIGHT FORWARD" below and I'll DM you a video with extra details on this topic! #golftips #golf #golfr #lpga #mikahwilsongolf #stlouis #pgatour #stackandtilt #golflesson #golftiktok #golfinstruction #golftok #golfer #golfing #golflife #golfswing #golfcoach #golfdrills

If you struggle with consistent ball first, ground second contact...make sure to check these 2 KEYS! ✅ 1. Avoid your hips shifting excessively off the ball (away from the target) during the backswing AND… 2. Make sure you shift your hips far enough forward on the downswing These both help to keep your low point more forward, eliminating fat and thin shots and maximizing your compression💥 Place an alignment stick or noodle 1 inch away from your trail hip at setup…avoid running into it on the way back (create a small gap)…then shift your hips WAY forward on the way down (create a big gap) ⛳️ FOLLOW for more simple tips! #lpga #golftips #golfr #stlouis #mikahwilsongolf #pgatour #golf #stackandtilt #golflesson #golftiktok #golfinstruction #golftok #golfer #golfing #golflife #golfswing #golfcoach

Try THIS if you struggle with SHALLOWING the club during the downswing! If you want to make it easier to SHALLOW your downswing and have the club working more from IN TO OUT through impact, start by ensuring you have good hand depth going back ✅ If your hands don't move IN ⬅️ enough and get very vertical on the backswing, your arms will tend to lift up off of your torso. This increases the likelihood of coming OVER THE TOP during the downswing and having the club working more from OUT TO IN through impact ❌ Comment "HANDS IN" if you'd like to learn more about how these 2 words can transform your game and I'll DM you all of the details👊 ⛳️ Follow for more simple tips! #golftips #golfr #stlouis #mikahwilsongolf #pgatour #lpga #golf #stackandtilt #golflesson #golftiktok #golfinstruction #golftok #golfer #golfing #golflife #golfswing

Keeping your eyes down, or "head down", through the ball prevents you from being able to extend and rotate your body...which leads to your arms bending too much...which leads to poor contact (thinning and topping). Unfortunately, you can still hear this classic phrase echoing on the range/course when a player tops their ball: "I looked up, didn't keep my head down" The irony is they likely topped it BECAUSE they kept their eyes looking down. As a slight exaggeration, FEEL like you never lose sight of the ball. Rotate your head so you can watch the greater majority of the ball flight. You shouldn't be keeping your eyes down at the ground so long that when you finally look up, you're on a desperate search for the ball in the sky. Try the FEEL of following the ball the whole way if you struggle with this. In summary, allow your neck to rotate out towards the target through the ball (so you can extend and rotate your body) and keep your arms straight into the follow through (to preserve the radius length)...this will lead to more consistent, solid contact! 🏌️‍♂️Follow for more simple tips! #golfr #golftips #stlouis #mikahwilsongolf #pgatour #lpga #golf #stackandtilt #golflesson #golftiktok #golfinstruction #golftok #golfer #golfing #golflife #golfswing

LEAD SHOULDER DOWN ↘️ You must TILT to maintain your inclination to the ground during the backswing! This stable inclination allows you to consistently control where the club hits the ground for predictable, solid contact. Simply replace the amount of forward bend you have at address with the same amount of lead side bend (tilt) up to the top of the backswing. This is an extremely important move as it facilitates the 1st fundamental task of the golfer, CONTACT (low point control). ⛳️ Follow for more golf tips! #golftips #mikahwilsongolf #pgatour #lpga #stlouis #golfr #golf #stackandtilt #golflesson #golftiktok #golfinstruction #golftok #golfer #golfing #golflife #golfswing

✅ Get on your toes of your trail foot at the finish position to ensure you shift your weight fully forward in the downswing You'll know you did it correctly if you get the center of your pelvis on top of your lead ankle at P9 (trail arm parallel to the ground in the follow through) When you shift your weight forward properly like this, you give yourself the best chance to make solid contact via hitting ball first, ground second Said differently, it helps tremendously with controlling the low point of your swing...which is the #1 fundamental of golf! ⛳️ Follow for more simple golf tips! #mikahwilsongolf #golf #stackandtilt #golflesson #golftiktok #golfinstruction #golftok #golfer #golfing #golfswing #golflife #golftips #pgatour #lpga #golfr #stlouis

❌ Keeping your trail knee bent during the backswing typically causes the following negative chain reaction... Bent trail knee ➡️ reduced hip and shoulder turn ➡️ excessive lifting up of arms and hands (in an effort to make a long enough swing) ➡️ lack of hand path depth ➡️ steep, over the top downswing transition ➡️ club path more out to in 🟰 pulls and slices and a loss of distance ✅ Try this instead... Straightened trail knee ➡️ increased hip and shoulder turn ➡️ minimal lifting up of arms and hands ➡️ sufficient hand path depth/"hands in" ➡️ shallow downswing transition ➡️ club path more in to out 🟰 pushes and draws and more potential power/distance That steep, over the top downswing could also be why you struggle with: 1️⃣ hitting your longer clubs high enough, far enough, and straight enough 2️⃣ hitting pop-ups with your driver In summary, your backswing cue is: "Straighten trail leg, hands in" ⛳️ Follow for more simple tips! #mikahwilsongolf #stackandtilt #golfinstruction #golflesson #golf #golftiktok #golftok #golfer #golfing #golfswing #golflife #golftips #pgatour #lpga #golfr

Fix fat shots INSTANTLY! 👇 Hitting ground first, ball second (fat shots) is a common problem for many golfers. How do you ensure consistent, solid contact via hitting ball first, ground second? You need to be able to control your low point👍 There are three key factors to look at when it comes to controlling your low point. Controlling where your lower and upper body weight is throughout your swing is the first one and where I'd recommend you start. ❌ Excessive shifting of your upper and lower body to the trail side at any point in your swing = low point before the ball (fat shots) ✅ Upper and lower body staying fairly centered up to the top...on the way down and into the follow through, the lower body shifts forward while the upper body remains fairly centered = low point after the ball (solid contact) Hope this helps! Create a lot more club head speed/power and hit the ball higher and farther by "pushing" your hips/belt buckle FORWARD + UP ↗️ during the downswing. A simple cue for this move: "MOVE THE HIPS FORWARD, then TUCK THE HIPS UNDER THE TORSO" Don't forget to have your hips/belt buckle TURNING 🔄 towards the target as well. A BONUS tip/feel at the finish position to ensure you perform this move correctly: 1️⃣ Get your weight/pressure to 95/5 on the lead foot. In other words...the hips have moved the full range of motion FORWARD, leaving virtually no weight on the trail foot. Maximize your club head speed and eliminate your slice by working your HANDS IN ⬅️ during the backswing! This concept is similar to how a field goal kicker moves his leg and foot in an arc (as opposed to straight back) to maximize power 🏈 If your hands don't move IN and get very vertical in the backswing, your arms will tend to lift too much off of your torso. This increases the chances of the club getting STEEP in transition and swinging from OUT TO IN through impact (pulls and slices) 🚫 The more depth you have with your hands in the backswing, the easier it is to SHALLOW the club in transition and have it swinging from IN TO OUT through impact (pushes and draws) ✅ HANDS IN/depth checkpoint: Draw a straight line down from the butt of the club at the top of the backswing (P4) from DTL...that line ideally falls roughly over the trail ankle to indicate sufficient depth. If you'd like to learn more about this concept, comment "HANDS IN" and I'll DM you the extra details!👊 🏌️‍♂️ @sierackigolf #golfing #stackandtilt #stackandtiltworldwide #stlouismo #golflife #mikahwilsongolf #golftips #golftok #golfswing #golfer #golftiktok #golf #golfislife #golfinstructor #golfinstruction #golfclub #golfcoach #stlouis #chicago #pga #lpga

Instantly improve your shaft lean and compression via having your hands more forward at P6! When you feel like your hands are trapped back behind your body during the downswing, this is often caused by a lack of both trail shoulder protraction and trail arm adduction. You'll likely struggle with the following: 1. Swinging excessively in to out 2. Low point moving back 3. Fatting and thinning 4. Pushing and hooking 5. Early releasing wrist angles, or "casting/flipping"...reducing forward shaft lean at impact Simple cue to improve trail shoulder + arm motion in downswing: "Trail arm across chest" Checkpoints to look for at P6 (from face on view): Hands and lead arm roughly in front of trail thigh...butt of club roughly inline with the back of the ball If you'd like to learn more about the fix, comment "BOWLER" below and I'll DM you all the details!👊 *P6 is when the shaft is parallel to the ground in the downswing 🎥: @taraschigolf 🏌️‍♂️: @cwigolf #mikahwilsongolf #golflife #stlouismo #stackandtiltworldwide #golfing #stackandtilt #golftips #golftok #golfswing #golfer #golftiktok #golf #golfislife #golfinstructor #golfinstruction #golfclub #golfcoach #stlouis #chicago #pga #lpga #golfdigest

The SECRET to solid contact is turning your hips and shoulders in a circle! We do not want them shifting off the ball to the trail side as this moves the low point back behind the ball. Your weight will still be 55/45 or 60/40 on the lead foot at the top (like it was at setup) and your lower and upper centers will feel more stacked on top of each other. Keeping your hips and shoulders, or your "weight", forward keeps your low point forward. This helps you consistently hit ball first, ground second and eliminate fats and thins. Eliminate your slice and maximize your club head speed by keeping your ARMS STRAIGHT during the downswing! When your arms start bending in the downswing, you'll notice your elbows start pulling farther apart. Your elbows pulling farther apart causes your wrist angles to start early releasing, which is the "casting" or "flipping" that leads to having no forward shaft lean at impact. Having no forward shaft lean moves the low point too far back behind the ball, which leads to poor contact (fats and thins) and a lack of compression. Keep the elbows close together throughout the entire swing to dramatically improve your wrist angles, shaft lean, low point, solidness of contact and compression!👊 #stlouismo #golflife #golfing #stackandtiltworldwide #mikahwilsongolf #stackandtilt #losangeles #golftips #golfswing #golftok #golfer #golf #golftiktok #golfislife #golfinstructor #golfcoach #golfinstruction #golfclub #golfaddict #golfr #lpga #pga #golfdigest #golfchannel #golfdrills #pasadena

The EASIEST way to achieve a 90° "SHOULDER TURN" 🔄 It's easy to assume that the 90° "shoulder turn" single-handedly comes from the spine rotating... However, the spine can only rotate about 30° on its own (in other words, on a fixed pelvis). So where does the other 60° of rotation come from? The golfer can obtain rotation from the following 3 sources… 1️⃣ The TRAIL KNEE EXTENDING and the LEAD KNEE FLEXING The knees changing flex induces about 45° of "hip turn". 2️⃣ The SPINE ROTATING (about 30°) This adds an additional 30° of rotation ON TOP OF the 45° of "hip turn" we already got from the knees changing flex. Combine these two sources of rotation together and we have a "rib cage turn" of about 75°. 3️⃣ The TRAIL SHOULDER RETRACTING/pulling back (about 15°) and the LEAD SHOULDER PROTRACTING/pulling forward (about 20°) This adds an additional 35° of rotation ON TOP OF the 75° of "rib cage turn" we already got from the knees changing flex + the spine rotating. Combine these three sources of rotation together and we EASILY have a "shoulder turn" of 90-110°. ❕Bonus tip: The TRAIL FOOT being FLARED OUT about 20° at setup facilitates the 45° "hip turn". Please SHARE this post with your friends who have said they're not flexible enough to make a 90° "shoulder turn", as this is the EASIEST and SAFEST way to achieve it. All they may need is a better implementation of these 3 sources of rotation to finally get it! 👍 Comment below if you have any questions! 🏌️‍♂️ @cwigolf 📷 @taraschigolf #golflife #stlouismo #golfing #stackandtiltworldwide #mikahwilsongolf #stackandtilt #losangeles #golftips #golfswing #golftok #golfer #golf #golftiktok #golfislife #golfinstructor #golfcoach #golfinstruction #golfclub #golfaddict #golfr #pga #lpga #golfdrills

DIRECTION is the 3rd fundamental task of the golfer as defined by @stackandtilt 🏌️‍♂️ We can measure golfers of different skill levels by how well they perform the 3 dynamic fundamentals. -DIRECTION- The best golfers have ball flight control, or a predictable curve/shot pattern. This allows them to navigate their way around the course and avoid trouble👍 🏌️‍♂️ @nellykorda #stlouismo #golfing #golflife #stackandtiltworldwide #mikahwilsongolf #stackandtilt #losangeles #golftips #golfswing #golftok #golfer #golf #golftiktok #golfislife #golfinstructor #golfcoach #golfinstruction #golfclub #golfaddict #golfr #lpga #pga #highlandpark #golflesson

POWER is the 2nd fundamental task of the golfer as defined by @stackandtilt 🏌️‍♂️ We can measure golfers of different skill levels by how well they perform the 3 dynamic fundamentals. -POWER- The best golfers generate enough power/distance to play the golf course...hitting the ball far enough to reach the par 3s in one shot, par 4s in two shots, and par 5s in three shots. They're able to swing fast enough while still making good contact👍 🏌️‍♂️ @sierackigolf #golflife #golfing #stackandtiltworldwide #mikahwilsongolf #stlouismo #stackandtilt #losangeles #golftips #golfswing #golftok #golfer #golf #golftiktok #golfislife #golfinstructor #golfcoach #golfinstruction #golfclub #golfaddict #golfr #golfdrills #golfdigest #golfchannel #highlandpark #livgolf

CONTACT is the 1st fundamental task of the golfer as defined by @stackandtilt 🏌️‍♂️ We can measure golfers of different skill levels by how well they perform the 3 dynamic fundamentals. -CONTACT- The best players hit the ground in the same place over and over again with every swing, and that spot is in front of the ball with an iron. There's a very tight dispersion and consistency in their low point control, or where the bottom of the swing's arc is👍 🏌️‍♂️ @craigisabel_golf 📹 @taraschigolf #golfing #stackandtiltworldwide #stackandtilt #stlouismo #golflife #mikahwilsongolf #losangeles #golftips #golfswing #golftok #golfer #golf #golftiktok #golfislife #golfinstructor #golfcoach #golfinstruction #golfclub #golfaddict #golfr #golfcourse #lpga #pga #golfdigest #golfchannel #highlandpark #golfdrills
