How to Raise your String Action on an Acoustic Guitar with a Fixed Saddle | MusicNomad A saddle adjustment on an acoustic guitar is more complicated than a saddle adjustment on an electric guitar because you have to remove material from the saddle to adjust physically. It’s possible to make these adjustments at home with a piece of sandpaper on a block, or if you have an old piece of tile or a piece of glass, you can put some sandpaper down and sand the bottom of the saddle to adjust your action height. How To Measure Nut Height on a Locking Tremolo System NBut: For guitars with a locking nut, you can’t file the individual string slots to correct any action problems. You have to either take the material off the bottom of the nut to lower it or put shims under the nut to raise it. One issue with locking nuts is that you may be unable to make every string perfect because you can’t adjust the individual nut heights. Therefore, you may have a couple of strings that are a little high or a little low. What Is Fret Sprout & How To Fix | There are a few simple ways to check if your guitar has fret sprout. Run your finger along the edge of the fretboard. If you feel slight bumps at the ends of the frets, you have a slight case of fret sprout. If you feel the metal of the fret poking out sharply, you have a much more serious case. You can also use a wooden dowel to run along the side of the fingerboard. If the dowel skips or gets caught, this also indicates fret sprout. If Your Truss Rod On Your Guitar is Stuck, Here is How to Fix it | If you go to adjust your truss rod and it feels stuck, never force it. If you feel like you have to put a lot of tension on it, stop because it might be seized. The reason could be that it is out of threading and the nut is buried on the end. Another reason is it could be rusted. To fix this, you should first try going backward (counterclockwise) and loosening the nut with the truss rod wrench. Try to break it loose, and sometimes it will pop. You can put some oil on the threads and nut and gently try to break it loose. How to Fix Intonation on a Fender Stratocaster (Strat-Itis) As you check your intonation on the upper frets, you may notice a somewhat common condition in Stratocaster guitars known as Strat-itis. This is when the pickups are too close to the strings, and they are creating a magnetic pull on the string that is causing the note to have a warbly sound. Strat-itis heavily affects intonation. If this happens, lower the pickups until the string is outside the magnetic force so they do not pull on the strings. This will allow the string to ring clearly.
