1980s I was that inner-city kid who came home when the streetlights flickered on, raised on free school meals and the adrenalin of trying to understand an alcoholic parent. But my mum was brave - she graduated when I was 6 and changed the future for us. Roller-skating, disco-dancing and cheerleading.... they were golden days. I was active, talkative and creative. I was happy to learn from anyone willing to teach me - my eagerness was well received by all but one teacher (at least now I know that was a him-issue). 1990s Off to grammar school - this was meant to be a 'good' kind of *different* but an undiagnosed autoimmune condition (+ burnout) soon flipped that to a "disappointing" kind of *different*... Teachers whipped out the "not reaching her full potential" card, like there was something I should just do differently. An 1lth-hour comeback, my GCSE results arrived like a middle finger to every teacher who'd written me off. My Physics teacher never failed to believe in me, so I mirrored his faith and chose Physics at A-level. 2000s The universe had other ideas. At 17, I was hit by a car while riding pillion on my boyfriend's motorbike. What followed were 7 years in a wheelchair with countless surgeries, bone grafts, muscle grafts, skin grafts - the works. I studied for degrees in science and then in engineering. Always one to keep myself busy, I worked in graphic design, web development, marketing, property renovations and for an engineering firm, designing and developing wheelchair accessible vehicles. Randomness at the time included building a recording studio, running a festival and being in a Will Young music video! 2010s Becoming a mum gave a different meaning to everything I thought I knew. She has been my greatest teacher and purest motivation. Like a gift of time travel, I have grown up alongside her, watching, listening and discovering. I married The Man who made our smiles wide and our hearts full. Our blended family looked optimistically to the future. Most definitely a decade of learning, joy and growth all 'round. Returning to university to become a teacher, a time of new passions. 2020s The decade that kicked off with a global pandemic! By this time, I was a safeguarding lead and also a phase leader... Managing a team of 10 and remote-teaching, before we headed back to school to navigate bubbles! (May they never return.) Whilst I was at home researching for my masters degree, I accidently stumbled into an ADHD diagnosis. The most challenging and successful half-decade by far! Heartbreaking and fear-soaked learning curves which tested my grit and propelled me into speaking up and growing strong. With that bitter-sweet post-40 'done with this BS' momentum, I made several exit-plans... which included coaching. 2022 I founded MyND Coach to provide support to neurodivergent professionals, may of whom are late-diagnosed and facing the challenges of a life built on high-masking behaviours. 2025 I chose to stay in teaching, developing my leadership practice, as an advocate and voice for neurodivergent children and adults. 2026 Behind the scenes, I have been preparing to publish and present the resources I use in my practice, to address the common barriers encountered by neurodivergent educators and learners. My vision is to bring dignity, equality and actionable change. #AboutMe #Coach #Neurodivergent #TeacherTok

Thank you Jo Clayton and Natalie Lauren, Hugh Viney, Anna Maxwell Martin Cathy Tyson, and the whole team, cast and crew of Unauthorised Absence film, for bringing light to some of the darkest hours a parent and child can share. One of the best pieces of advice I was given in some of my most difficult days was "build the good." You have. 💪 To the mums, dads, educators and professionals who show up with integrity: stand together 🫶 #UnauthorisedAbsence

The next teacher-transfer-window closes on October 31st. If you’ve started wondering if you need to move somewhere else, that’s a sign something needs to change. Before you decide, ask yourself: What would the grass actually be like over there? What would your role feel like with reasonable adjustments in place? What would your energy be like if your leadership understood the impact of your conditions on your working day? Leaving might still be the right call. But you deserve to know what help you could ask for first. Things You Need to Know About Reasonable Adjustments workshop, Saturday 24th at 10am 👇 https://go.myndcoach.co.uk/reasonable #neurodivergentteachers #teacherwellbeing #reasonableadjustments #leavingteaching

Find the place that lets you breathe, then go back every time you need to 🌊 This is my beach. The noise drops, my shoulders rest, and I remember what it feels like to be me. It isn’t a luxury or a reward for getting through the week. It’s maintenance. If you’re neurodivergent and running on a full tank of everyone else’s expectations, your place counts. Go there before you hit empty, not after. Where’s yours? 👇 #neurodivergent #audhd #regulation #neurodivergentprofessionals #beachtherapyl

Silenced by Support is a campaign run by Sarah Dunwood and Nick Smart. It was created by and for teachers who’ve been pushed out of the profession under the guise of “support”, and it affects many of the educators I work with 💛 Their report collects the stories of 101 teachers, and their aim is accountability, transparency and reform in how schools and trusts handle performance concerns. 📖 Michael Charles’s article: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1FE4tsiksf/ 🌐 Website and report: https://silencedbysupport5.wordpress.com/ 👥 Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1ERnKDFJMR/ Like Michael, I want wonderful educators to understand the protections and adjustments that exist, so they can succeed in the profession on fair terms. #silencedbysupport #neurodivergenteducators #reasonableadjustments #teacherwellbeing #audhdtok

Hiding under the blanket, doing the spoon maths. Is it a “push through” day or a “protect what’s left” day? And honestly, whose circus owns these monkeys, and why do they keep turning up at mine? 🙈🥄 Some days the most productive thing you can do is admit the tank is low. Here’s what I keep coming back to though. Diagnosis alone is not enough. Knowing why you’re running out of spoons is a start. Changing how many you’re over-spending at work is the bit that actually makes life more manageable. That’s where reasonable adjustments come in. Not as a favour, but as a way of building a working week that doesn’t leave you hiding under a blanket by Thursday. If you’re ready to look at your role, your barriers, and the wording that gets adjustments agreed and written down 👉 https://go.myndcoach.co.uk/reasonable Or, you know, stay under the blanket a bit longer. Also valid 🐈⬛ #audhd #adhd #autistic #spoontheory #reasonableadjustments

My AuDHD flow state had a shelf life of roughly 45 seconds and a soundtrack no one else can hear 🎧 You finally get locked in. The plan is immaculate. The focus is pristine. Every neuron firing in perfect formation to a chaotic 90s mash-up only you can hear. And then. “Have you got a sec?” Reader, I did not have a sec. I had a fragile, hard-won, once-in-a-day window of concentration that has now left the building and will not be returning today. If you know, you know 🫠 #audhd #adhd #autistic #neurodivergent #hyperfocus

This week I travelled up to Leicester Square for the private screening of Swallow, a short film written and produced by Katerina Philippou-Curtis, telling her story of being bullied in the school where she taught. Not only by students. By colleagues. I didn’t watch it as a stranger to the story. My ND Coach didn’t start as a business plan. It started as a door I built for myself while I watched colleagues I respected being picked off, one support plan at a time. When the word support makes experienced teachers feel afraid, something has gone very wrong in our profession. Sitting in that cinema, surrounded by teachers and the families who watched what happened to them, it was clear this film is more than one woman’s story. It speaks in protection for all of us. It says: this happened, it is still happening, and we see it. Swallow is beginning its festival journey now, and I hope it travels far. To Kat, thank you for your courage. And to anyone still inside a school quietly wondering whether it’s only them: it isn’t. Keep talking. We’re listening.

I'll be running six, weekly sessions across the summer for neurodivergent educators who know how they're wired, whether that came from a formal diagnosis or your own hard-won self-understanding. What most educators have never had is the time and help to map what it actually means day to day: executive functioning, sensory load, the spiky profile, and how to start building a working life that fits you. I'm running a free webinar on 22 July where you can find out more and see if it's right for you. Here's where you can save your spot: https://services.myndcoach.co.uk/ summersessions

Get September-ready. Picture walking back in already knowing what you need and how to ask for it. Not bracing. Not white-knuckling. Just ready. That’s what this summer’s for. It starts with one free hour. ☀️ No More White-Knuckling Through A free webinar for neurodivergent teachers Wednesday 22 July, 7pm. Your way into the six weekly Summer Sessions that follow. Formal diagnosis, self-identified, still waiting on assessment… all welcome. I’m AuDHD myself, so this is lived experience, not a textbook. Sensory rigidity is a very real, very unglamorous part of being autistic. I don’t wear my hair up because it makes me feel like I’m not myself. It’s the wrong shape… like I’m wearing someone else’s head 🫠 But it’s 30 degrees and something had to give. So here she is. A ponytail. I’m fine. I’m coping. Send help (and an iced water). If you also have a Very Specific set of rules about how you have to look to feel okay, you’re not high maintenance, you’re just wired for consistency 🎀 #audhd #autistic #adhd #neurodivergent #actuallyautistic

Masking kept you safe. It made sense when you needed it. When the environment was was happening, when fitting in felt like the only option. But it was never meant to be permanent. If you're neurodivergent and been holding it together for so long you've forgotten what "not holding it together" even feels like, that's when working with me can help. You don't have to keep the mask on with me. Link in bio to find out how we work together. #neurodivergent #AuDHD #masking #coaching #burnout

The independent ADHD Taskforce has reported that 17% of children in youth justice services and 25% of adults in prison have ADHD. Untreated ADHD is costing an estimated £17 billion in the UK. Support plans that offer no support? Targeted pressure to force resignation? You are not alone 🫶 I stand against the practice of coercive ‘support plans’ and with the educators who most often require reasonable adjustments before a support plan. My forthcoming book (can’t share the title yet) seeks to guide leaders away from tribunals and into meaningful reflection and discussion which nurtures true leadership 🫶 @NASUWT - The Teachers' Union @Mr P MBE @Neuroteachers @Disability Network @neurodivergenteducator @Jessica Kingsley Publishers
