Concentration–time and rate–concentration graphs look similar but tell you different things. Mixing them up is an easy way to lose marks in rates questions. Save this before your mocks. 🧪 Live crash courses this half term: Rates (Thu 6-8pm), Equilibria (Fri 6-8pm), Energetics & Thermodynamics (Sat 3-5pm). Remember that forces of electrostatic attraction pretty much dictate the everything in chemistry- overcoming those attractive forces requires energy and is therefore endothermic. The opposite is true when opposite charges come together As always let me know in the comments the topics you need help with x #chemistrytutor #chemistrytutor #year13 #chemistry

I’ve been asked so many times “which way do the arrows go?” And my answer is always “whichever way the definition says they do” - so make sure you’re comfortable with the definition for all of the enthalpy changes! #chemistrytutor #alevels #alevelchemistry #chemistry

Solution enthalpy questions are just another application of Hess’s law so make sure you understand the definitions properly and you shouldn’t have any problem putting together the cycles! Head over to my website for details on my weekly revision workshops and don’t forget to leave your questions in the comments xx #chemistrytutor #alevels #year13 #alevelchemistry #studytips

Here’s another example and you can see once again we’re following the same pattern that is to turn our elements into individual atoms turn our atoms into ions and then turn the ions into an ionic lattice. For more details on my weekly workshops, check my website and don’t forget to leave your questions in the comments xx #chemistrytutor #alevels #chemistry #alevelchemistry #year13

Here’s an example of how to draw a Born-Haber Cycle - remember we always follow the same process which is to atomise or elements then create a positive and negative ions and finally join them in a lattice Don’t forget to leave your questions in the comments and if you’d like to come to my weekly workshops all the details can be found on my website that is linked in my bio xx #chemistrytutor #alevelchemistry #chemistry #alevels #year13

Born-Haber cycles are actually incredibly straightforward once you really understand what it is they represent. Make sure that you are comfortable with the definitions for the different enthalpy changes in words as well as being able to write them as equations since these are what make up you’re Born-Haber and Hess cycles! Don’t forget to leave your questions in the comments and go over to my website for details on my weekly revision workshops xx #chemistrytutor #alevelchemistry #studytips #chemistry #stemtok

Aldehydes and ketones both have a CO double bond, but one hydrogen changes if they can be oxidised and therefore how you test for them. Questions? Comment below weekly reset workshops, link in bio xx ##chemistrytutor##alevelchemistry##studytips##year13##chemistry

You don’t always have to do things in the order that the question asks – I’d always recommend drawing mechanisms before naming and thinking about an explanation before stating your answer. If you have any A-level chemistry questions, please leave them in the comments! #chemistrytutor #alevelchemistry #chemistry #studytips #year13

Dont just blindly follow the instructions – keep asking why! This is the only way to get your head around all the required practicals needed for your chemistry A-level. #chemistrytutor #alevelchemistry #chemistry #studytips #stemtok

Distillation versus reflux is a classic “explain why” question and it decides whether you get an aldehyde or a carboxylic acid. Understand that and the whole topic clicks. Questions? Comment below. Weekly resit workshops, link in bio x #chemistrytutor #alevelchemistry #chemistry #year13 #studytips

Make sure you take the time to understand what the Maxwell Boltzman distribution represents as well as its key features - the better your understanding of the distribution, the easier it will be for you to get the questions right! Don’t forget to leave your questions in the comments! I’m running weekly workshops to help year 13s get ready for their mocks as well as some for people resitting their chemistry A-Level this summer. All the information is on my website, which is linked in my bio xx #chemistrytutor #alevels #alevelchemistry #chemistry #year13

Rates is another topic that you meet in year 12 and it just gets harder and harder in year 13 as we add numbers - as always the key to physical chemistry is being accurate and paying attention to the small details. Make sure you’re comfortable with the basics because a solid understanding of this will let you know what you need to do in the more difficult questions. Don’t forget to leave your questions in the comments and if you’d like to attend my weekly workshops all of the information is on my website! #chemistrytutor #alevels #alevelchemistry #chemistry #year13

An easy way to remember Le Chatelier’s principle - I always say chemicals are a bit like people and they have things that they like and don’t like to do! A system at equilibrium is stable therefore if you alter the conditions, it will try to move them back again. Equilibrium one of the places where Year 12 gaps show up fast, and Year 13 builds numbers on top of it! So it’s worth getting sorted now. Stuck on something? Comment it and I’ll make a video to explain it. Year 13 workshops start tomorrow, £15 a session or £40 a month - link in bio xxx #alevelchemistry #chemistry #chemistrytutor #year13 #alevels

Haloalkanes can also undergo elimination reactions when reacted with OH- ions in alcoholic conditions - here you see the hydroxide ions acting as bases whereas in the nuclophilic substitution reaction they were acting as a nucleophiles. If you have questions on this or anything A-level chemistry related, please leave them in the comments. And if you would like more information on my weekly workshops, you can find it all in my website, the link is in my bio xx #organicchemistry #year13 #alevelchemistry #chemistrytutor #chemistry

Nucleophilic Substitution - that are a number of different reactions that will take place via this one mechanism so make sure you understand the driving force behind the mechanism so that you can easily identify when it can and can’t take place. Don’t forget to drop your questions in the comments and check out my website for info on my weekly revision workshops!! xxx ##organicchemistry##year13##alevelchemistry##chemistrytutor##stemtok

The electrophilic addiction mechanism - remember to spend some time thinking about why the arrows go where they go, not just remembering where they go. This is a lot easier when you remember that the arrows represent the movement of a pair of negative electrons. Leave your questions in the comments and head over to my website for more information on the weekly revision workshops. #organicchemistry #year13 #alevelchemistry #alevels #chemistrytutor

Alkenes: the basics - as always if you think about how a molecule looks and where the electrons are it will explain its behaviour Leave your A-level chemistry questions in the comments and check out my website for details of my live problem-solving workshops xx #alevelchemistry #chemistrytutor #alevels #year13 #chemistry

Alkanes: Free Radical Substitution This is the first reaction mechanism you come across in organic chemistry. Remember this can only occur in the presence of ultraviolet light and because it is an uncontrollable chain reaction you’ll end up with a mixture of products as well as multiple substitutions taking place.# I run weekly revision sessions split by exam board for year 13s and for students who are resetting in the summer all of the details can be found on my website which is linked in my bio xx

Alkanes: properties - this is pretty much all linked to structure and bonding which you should hopefully have a good understanding of by now 🤞 i’m currently running weekly revision workshops for year 13s and students that are resitting in the summer. In each workshop I explain what it is you actually need to understand then we work through exam questions. I demonstrate how to use your knowledge to solve the problems and get all the marks in the exam!
