Dark Cave, part 1. Five days of stillness, and I came out clearer and pretty upset with myself.

Tomorrow I head into a dark cave for 5 days. The week after that a vision planning weekend. The week after that yachts w billionaires for 4 days. The week after that my son gets married. The week after that heartland gathering w 500 epic humans. The week after that I am now hunting for bear.

Would you go into a dark cave retreat by yourself for 5 days? Would you be scared? What would you bring?

Nobody: Absolutely nobody: Neal Conlon on the 4th of July: Santa boots. Patriotic shorts. Full send. No notes. Look — if 4 guys in powdered wigs, riding horses, and writing with feather quills could build the greatest nation on earth from scratch… you can figure out how to close a deal. 250 years of freedom and some of you still can't commit to 5 hours to change your financial future. The redcoats didn't die for this. Sales is the oxygen of your business. No oxygen, no business. No business, no freedom. Christmas hits different for me. Not because of the holiday — but because one year, years ago, after getting laid off out of nowhere, I spent 30 days selling Christmas trees in NYC just to get by.
Seven days a week. Twelve hours a day. Carrying trees on my shoulder, tying them to taxis, watching families light up with pure joy while I was silently questioning everything in my own life. That season humbled me. Broke me open. And rebuilt me.
I was behind on rent, choosing between coffee or lunch, and trying to hold it together as a father and a man.
But from that darkness came the foundation for everything I do now. So yeah — I’m forward, I’m loud, I sell hard. Because I refuse to let people take the long, painful road I did. I’m sending the elevator back down. We’ve got work to do, and we rise faster together. Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals.
