A PC can only talk directly to devices on its own network. For anything on a different network, it hands the packet to the default gateway and lets the router do the rest. So the PC only ever needs the MAC address of the gateway. At each new network, the router does its own ARP to find the next device. This explains why a wrong gateway breaks everything outside your subnet. Follow for more. β‘οΈ π #networking #arp

π€ Before your PC can ping anything, it has to ask this question first. Watched ARP happen live in Packet Tracer: my PC shouted "who has this IP address?" to the whole network, every device heard it, and only ONE replied with its MAC address. Then, and only then, did the ping go through. π‘ That's why the first ping sometimes times out. It's not an error, it's ARP at work. π Wired vs. Wireless Network: Speed Test in Cisco Packet Tracer! β‘ I configured two networksβ2 wired PCs connected through a switch and 2 wireless laptops connected through an access point. After assigning IP addresses and running simulations, the wired network completed packet delivery faster in this test than the wireless network. π‘ Key takeaway: Wired connections often provide lower latency and more consistent performance, while wireless performance can vary with signal quality and interference. #CiscoNetworking #PacketTracer #WiredVsWireless #NetworkSimulation #Networking

π I could ping the server by IP, but typing its name did nothing... here's the missing piece. Built a local DNS server in Packet Tracer: a router with two subnets, a PC on one side, and a DNS/web server on the other. Without the DNS address on the PC, the name wouldn't load. One setting later, www.netlab.local opens instantly. β DNS is the phonebook of the internet, and now you've seen it work. The Hub broadcasts everything! π‘ When one device sends a packet, the hub forwards it to all connected devicesβnot just the intended recipient. Thatβs how a hub works! π»π #CiscoNetworking #PacketTracer #NetworkingBasics #NetLabAcademy

I sent a message to ONE computer... the hub told EVERYONE π³. Thatβs exactly the difference between switch and hub. A hub broadcasts all incoming data to every connected port, while a switch sends data only to the specific device it is meant for. π 2 PCs, 1 public IP, and a server that has no idea who's really visiting. Built a NAT network with an ISP router, a switch, 2 PCs, and a web server on the internet side. Without NAT, the private PCs couldn't reach the server at all. One PAT config on the router later, both PCs load the webpage, and the server only ever sees the router's single public address. β This is how every home and office network shares one internet connection. π€ I configured this link... and the interfaces just won't come up. Can you spot why? Two switches, manually set speed and duplex on the link between them, typed no shutdown β and both interfaces are STILL showing inactive. π€ I know what's usually behind this (cable type, speed mismatch on Gig ports, or the config not fully applying) β but before I reveal the fix, drop your answer below. Let's see who actually knows this one. π Follow β fix revealed in the next post π§ #CCNA #CiscoPacketTracer #Networking #ITStudent #NetworkEngineer

π I killed the main route β the router switched paths without me touching anything else. Configured a Floating Static Route: a primary path and a hidden backup with a higher administrative distance. Shut down the primary link live, and traffic instantly rerouted through the backup. No delay, no manual fix needed. β‘ This is exactly how real networks stay online when a link fails. π I locked myself out of my own router... here's exactly how I got back in. Forgot the enable password, rebooted into ROMMON mode, bypassed the startup config, reset the password, and restored everything back to normal. No data lost, no reset to factory default. π§ If you've ever been locked out of a real router, this is the fix. π 3 VLANs, 1 router, full communication β here's how it's done. Configured Router-on-a-Stick with VLAN 10 (PC), VLAN 20 (PC), and VLAN 30 (Server) β all isolated by default, all talking to each other through one router interface using sub-interfaces. β This is exactly how real networks segment traffic while still keeping everything connected. πͺ Same network, no gateway... and the ping just won't leave the house. 2 switches, 2 PCs, 1 router. Without a default gateway, a PC can't send traffic to anything outside its own subnet β ping fails completely. Add the gateway, and suddenly it knows exactly where to send it. β This is one of the first things every network device needs to actually talk to anything beyond itself. π’ Most tutorials never show you this side of Packet Tracer. Switched to Physical View, built an actual rack and table, mounted a router and switch INSIDE the rack, placed a PC on the table, configured the IPs, and pinged successfully. π This is exactly what a real server room setup looks like β not just the logical diagram. This is what an IPv6 address looks like, and yes, it works π Built a network with no IPv4 at all: a router, 2 LANs, and 2 PCs talking across them using IPv6 addresses. One command, ipv6 unicast-routing, is the difference between pings failing and pings succeeding. β‘ If you're a student learning networking, don't skip IPv6. π‘ One router, two ways to connect β cable AND WiFi, both getting IPs automatically. Configured a wireless router with DHCP enabled β a PC connects via Ethernet, a laptop connects wirelessly, and both receive their IP addresses instantly with zero manual setup. β‘ This is exactly how your home network works behind the scenes. π¦ Watch a packet travel in real time β this is what actually happens when you ping a device. The most basic network there is: 1 switch, 1 PC, 1 laptop. Assigned IPs, connected them, then switched to Simulation Mode to watch the packet physically move between devices. π If you're just starting out with Cisco Packet Tracer, this is exactly where to begin.
