Greggs’ eight-metre-long ‘Ta-Pastry’ is going on display at the Great North Museum: Hancock from 24th October, telling the story of the North East-born bakery through over five million stitches. Inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry, the embroidered artwork features six scenes charting the history of the Greggs sausage roll and the brand’s rise from its Newcastle roots to one of Britain’s best-known high street names. The piece took more than 200 hours to create and used around 40km of thread, including specially dyed Greggs blue and gold. It will sit alongside ‘Bayeux-on-Tyne’, which features a 174-year-old hand-drawn copy of the Bayeux Tapestry created by Newcastle schoolboys. Only in Newcastle could a sausage roll end up in a museum…
Running from 24th October 2026 until 17th January 2027. #newcastle #newcastleupontyne #greggs #greggstapestry #museum
