Behind the Smile My name is Nikto, and sometimes I wonder if anyone ever truly noticed how much I carried behind the person everyone thought they knew. I became so good at smiling that people stopped asking if I was okay. I became so good at saying “I’m fine” that eventually, even I stopped believing I deserved to say anything else. Always There for Everyone I was always there for people, even when nobody was there for me. I gave pieces of myself away just to make other people feel less alone, while quietly wondering who would stay when I was the one who needed someone. People Always Left I watched people come into my life, become important to me, and then slowly disappear, like I was only meant to be a temporary chapter in their story. I learned not to expect anyone to stay because expecting someone to stay only made losing them hurt more. The Quiet Nights There were nights when everything around me was quiet, yet my mind was louder than ever. It reminded me of every person I missed, every moment I wished I could change, every word I wished I had said, and every time I pretended something didn't hurt when it actually did. Becoming Distant I became distant, not because I stopped caring, but because caring so much had started to exhaust me. I stopped explaining myself because I felt like nobody was really listening anyway. I stopped chasing people because I was tired of feeling like I had to prove that I was worth keeping around. The Person Nobody Saw Somewhere along the way, Nikto became the person who could make everyone laugh while carrying a sadness nobody could see. I learned how to stand alone, not because I wanted to, but because life kept teaching me that sometimes the people you thought would stand beside you won't always be there when you turn around. The People I Remember I remember the people who left, the conversations that ended, the promises that faded, and the friendships that became nothing more than memories. And the hardest part isn't always losing someone. Sometimes it's realizing that they can continue living perfectly fine without you while you're still trying to understand how someone who once meant everything can eventually become a stranger. I Wish Someone Stayed I don't hate anyone for leaving anymore. Maybe people leave because their chapter with me was finished. Maybe I was never meant to keep everyone I loved. But sometimes I still wish someone had chosen to stay. Not because I needed to be saved, but because I wanted to know what it felt like to be someone's choice instead of someone's temporary place. The Story Behind Nikto So if you ever see Nikto laughing, joking, helping someone, or acting like nothing bothers him, remember that there may be a whole story behind that smile that nobody ever asked to hear. I'm not emotionless. I'm not heartless. I'm just tired. Tired of pretending that losing people doesn't hurt. Tired of being strong when I secretly wish I could just be understood. Alone I'm tired of watching people leave and convincing myself that I never needed them anyway. Maybe that's why I've become so comfortable with being alone. Silence doesn't make promises it can't keep. Loneliness doesn't suddenly disappear without an explanation. And memories, no matter how painful, never pretend they were something they weren't. Still Standing I am Nikto—the person who learned to walk alone after realizing that not everyone who walks beside you is planning to stay. I may not have everything I once wished for, and I may still carry pieces of yesterday that I haven't figured out how to let go of, but I'm still here, still moving forward, still becoming someone stronger than the person I used to be. Maybe One Day And maybe one day, I won't look back at all the people who left and wonder why I wasn't enough. Maybe I'll finally understand that their leaving was never proof that I was worthless.
