🐟Want to catch salmon, but don’t want to fly to Alaska?🐟 Fly fishing for Kokanee salmon is one of the most underrated experiences out there. 🐟 Kokanee are landlocked sockeye salmon, and during their spawning runs they turn bright red and fight like crazy. They may only average 12–18 inches, but pound for pound they are some of the hardest fighters you’ll ever hook. 🎣 Where to find them: Kokanee live in cold-water lakes across the western U.S. and Canada. In late summer and fall, they move into tributary rivers and streams to spawn — this is prime fly fishing time. 🪰 Flies that work: They’re aggressive and territorial when spawning.
