I’m riding through here, with the hot sun beating down on me; thinking in great depth. It’s good to be here, where strangers nod and say hello. I am welcome here. 🤗 I am here with purpose. I do not hear their words. “She’s deaf!” My father mouths to anyone who’ll listen as he dramatically tugs on his earlobe. And I’m laughing because it’s all so funny, the world 🌍 I live in. “See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.” 🙊 There was a time when Jewish and Muslim people lived in unity within these ancient walls of Aït Ben Haddou. As they did throughout Morocco. ⵓⵔ ⵏⵜⵜⵓ ⵎⴰⵢⴳⵍⵍⴰⵏ ⵉⵍⵍⴰ ⵓⵎⵣⵔⵓⵢ Then came the division; the cut; the subtle knife. 🔪 Purposeful. I don’t read, watch or listen to the news. 🗞️ For good reason. It warps your mind. I like to keep mine clean. 🧽 And I can hear him saying again. “People don’t like you, Anouska.” And I’m not laughing now. But I’m realising that there are two subsets of human: They and Us. Division and Unity. Shall I tell you a secret? 🤫 There were real pirates 🏴‍☠️ around Essaouira long ago, when it was known as Mogador. Amazigh seafarers knew this wild Atlantic coast, its winds, currents and treacherous waters. Corsairs and rival powers fought for control of these seas. ⚓️🌊 In the 18th century, Sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah transformed Mogador into a fortified royal port, with mighty ramparts and cannons guarding the harbour. Imlil waterfallls in March. It was Ramadan and there had been extreme flooding since my last visit. Many shops and restaurants had been damaged. The old bridge had been ravaged and what looked like a rickety replacement had been made. The other tourists and guide were nervous to try the bridge. But I am an expert rickety bridge crosser! 😆 It was sturdy and held, so everyone followed me. #bridge #waterfall #morocco #adventuregirl #imlil

I don’t like being around people any more. I focus on Morocco 🇲🇦 a lot. For good reason. She pretty much saved my life, when I was at my lowest point. When I’d been screwed by pretty much every person that should have been there for me. Shunned, abandoned, gossiped about, judged, lied to …. And then I discovered a place where I was made to feel welcome as I am. A place where my soul could finally rest a while: In nature, in the desert 🌵 in the mountains, in the ocean, exploring ancient Kaspajs, mountain biking in the Oasis, horseriding along endless beaches, staring for hours into the fire; at the vastness of a starlit night … Here just sitting watching the birds as they delicately hop along scouring for breadcrumbs left from a tagine supper, cooked over the fire. 🔥 And I’m at peace. Left in my own thoughts, filming this whilst there are people nearby that don’t feel the need to trespass into my mind. So maybe ‘everyone’ is too harsh. Maybe I just mean that sometimes you have to leave your own life behind, and start again. Find your place; your people. 🥰 #morocco #solotravel #peace #zagora #campfire

Camels moving beneath distant mountains. Birds pattering softly across the sand, delicately searching for morsels left behind after a tagine cooked over the fire. 🔥 I could be at a desert camp, dancing around the fire, or seated at a table, being waited upon whilst eating with knives and forks.
