There's a piece of Berlin sound system history hiding in the background of the most viral song on the internet right now, @KITSCHKRIEG's & @blumengartenoffiziell's "Gut Genug" - the Killasan, the Jamaican-spec sound system that bridged dub techno, dancehall, and UK bass at Wax Treatment, Mark Ernestus's Hard Wax-adjacent party series at Horst Krzbrg in Kreuzberg.

After months of work and preparation we’re launching the Community Radio Index - an interactive online tool that maps community radio stations across the globe. To our knowledge it’s the first centralized effort to document a majority of the world's operating online community radio stations in a single resource. Community radio sits at the intersection of culture work and grassroots activism, and in a time when more and more of our cultural life is threatened by algorithmic monoculture, this work feels increasingly urgent. These stations and projects maintain spaces of artistic possibility and cultural resistance, so this is as much of a story about what independent music infrastructure looks like in 2026, as about what gets lost if these spaces aren't actively maintained. We built it out of a deep love for what community radio is and what it makes possible: independence, locality, the refusal to be organised by commercial logic. And from a conviction that something this important deserves to be visible. The project was made possible by a small team of volunteers, wled by myself and Robert Jurewicz aka @robbiemakesradio doing much of the development work, m with incredible design work by Save Studio in Yogyakarta, with contributions by the extended Hyper Real community. This is only the beginning. We want to expand the index into a full directory of the people making it happen, the hosts, the curators, the volunteers keeping these stations alive, and to build it into a genuine resource for the culture. Get in touch if you want to get involved and please submit stations we might have overlooked. We hope it sends you somewhere you've never been before ♥️ Music: AceMo - Adaptive Drums

Caught up with u.r.trax, the Parisian producer and DJ Inès Boullant, who started playing instruments at four, was producing by ten, and visiting Tresor with her mum at fourteen, which tells you everything you need to know about how she got here. Her sound has evolved from driving techno into something considerably harder to pin down, spanning dark trance, cold electro, and psychedelic club music while recently expanding into live performance and songwriting, while remaining one of Paris's most exciting and unpredictable voices. We find out which three artists sent a teenage Inès to her mum declaring she'd make InesStep one day, discover what the connection between Ableton and a dead body on a San Francisco beach, get the full story on a gloriously ill-fitting Ibiza moment, and get her essential picks, Debasement, Ouri, Uri, and the criminally underappreciated Dæmon and Modulaw collaboration. Music: u.r. trap & ouri - can u

Caught up with Slikback, the Nairobi-born, Poland-based producer, who has built one of the most restlessly evolving bodies of work in the global experimental underground ever since appearing in the wake of the infamous Nyege Nyege collective. His output oscillates wildly between bludgeoning noise, trap, footwork, gqom, and sparse ambient improv, absorbing everything from traditional pan-African percussion to grime, techno and dubstep and always guided by emotion over convention. We trace the evolution of his sound from minimalist beginnings to his current territory between ultra-noisy and stripped-back, discuss the most meaningful connection music has given him, his wife Carolina, and close friend Brodinski, explore why he only knows a track is finished when he can't stop listening to it back, find out why he admires jjjacob's melodic craftsmanship he admires above all others, and get his essential picks, Median Wage, fees and Moraya Music: Slikback - KIRI

Caught up with @kavarikavarikavari, the Glasgow-based rave experimentalist, who started organising forest raves as a teenager in rural northern Scotland because no one else was providing the music she needed, and has since become one of the most uncompromising voices in the UK underground. Turning heads globally with her fast, harsh and abrasive productions that sit at the intersection of industrial noise, ambient, and club music, refusing any categorisation, she counts Aphex Twin as a declared fan. We find out how a YouTube clip of Skrillex stage-diving sent an 11-year-old to her parents asking for a DJ controller for Christmas, discuss why headphones on, alone in a dark room is her ideal listening environment, revisit a particularly mutant-filled night in a Poznań nuclear bunker, explore why she treats mixing and mastering as essentially fictional, and get her essential picks, Ship Sket, Myen, and 4tune. Music: Kavari - Please

Caught up with gyrofield, the Hong Kong-born, Utrecht-based producer, who started releasing music at 17 and has since become one of the most compelling young voices in contemporary electronic music. Weaving drum and bass, jungle, techno, and ambient influences into something that insists on being neither machine-made nor purely human, she's built a practice grounded in the intricacies between technology and her lived experience. We trace the evolution of her sound, discuss the feedback that reshaped how she thinks about production, that you can always do more with less, explore her deep admiration for the complex articulation of drummers like Chiminyo and Valentina Magaletti, and get her essential picks for three artists right now, Mu tate, Alken's and Scotia. Music: gyrofield - Snake Charmer

Caught up with Tatyana Jane, the French DJ and producer whose music navigates the charged space between bass music, techno, and Afro-futurism. Her relentless intensity has been turning heads across Europe and can be heard on her new EP, released today on the legendary @Ed Banger label. We explore her surprising deep love for classical music and how a recent collaboration with an orchestra drew her closer to Ravel's approach to building narrative and colour and discuss the pivotal moment two years ago at Panorama Bar, playing alongside Skrillex for CTM Festival, when she knew music had become bigger than everything else. We find out why Simo Cell's FL Louis EP is her definitive portrait of Paris, and get her essential picks for artists demanding attention right now, Ivorian-French singer @jeunemorty, the genius of @Dj Khalipha, and the deeply under-the-radar sounds of @asdekofficial and @Kuzowmusic. Music: Tatyana Jane - Orbit

Caught up with Charlie Sparks, ahead of the release of his long-awaited debut album tomorrow. Grown up in the trenches of Drumcode-fueled dance floors, his sound has travelled through drum and bass, tech house, and techno before settling into his own brand of hard and happy, he's rapidly become one of the more compelling voices in British hard dance. We trace the evolution of his productions, revisit why the crowd at the legendary Baum Festival ranks as one of his favorite world-wide, discuss why Solomun is his dream b2b partner, and explore his deep admiration for Ben Klock's technical mastery, on top of getting his essential picks for three rising talents from his Elektra label: Jan Krow, Version 34, and Morelia. #rave #techno #dj

Caught up with dubstep and grime legend Kahn! With a new album about to drop via @deepmedimusik on May 28th, the Bristol-based producer is one of UKs quietly essential artists. Known for his deeply atmospheric and bass-heavy sound that carries the weight of Bristol's rich sound system heritage while remaining entirely forward-looking. We explore the surprising influence of Indian violinist L. Shankar on his new album, discuss why the best advice he ever received was that not everything you make has to be your definitive statement, get into why Hans Zimmer needs to put the duduk down immediately and why producers should be expanding their sampling palette, find out which records he considers as close to perfect as anything he's heard, Kate Bush's Hounds of Love and Tricky's Maxinquaye, and get his essential picks: Irish artist @autumns.dss, Bristol's @dalidesaintpaul, and live dub act Elijah Minelli. Music: Kahn - Streets of Rage (2015 dubplate mix)

Caught up with Olof Dreijer, the legendary Swedish producer and one half of The Knife whose influence on electronic music runs far deeper than most care to admit. Now based in Barcelona after years in Berlin, he just dropped his long-awaited debut solo album Loud Bloom on @dh2.co, a 14-track statement that balances pure kinetic dancefloor pleasure with a deliberate push against the white, male, Western homogeny that still dominates electronic music. We explore his enduring love for the raw gut-punch of the SH101, discuss why patience is the most underrated skill any musician can possess, hear about the fan messages that reminded him why any of this matters in the first place, and get his essential recommendations for three artists whose vibe he can't stop thinking about, @t.no, @ruizosc1, and @nidiasukulbembe! Music: Olof Dreijer - Cassia

Caught up with @Ellen Allien, the Berlin-born institution who's spent three decades shaping the global techno landscape as a DJ, producer, and founder of BPitch and UFO Inc. A true product of Berlin's post-reunification underground, her sound carries the city's DNA while remaining restlessly forward-thinking. We discuss the Robert Hood track that never leaves her USB, why Kraftwerk rewired her brain entirely, which clubs she'd teleport herself into right now, why media-driven trends are just recycled 90s sounds dressed up for Instagram clicks, her essential advice for nervous DJs on how to own a booth from the very first track, and her picks for artists you should be paying attention to, such as Kaiju, Perfo and Aadja!

After two editions with guests like DJ Spinn, RP Boo, Jana Rush and Bianca Oblivion that hit harder than anyone could ever expect, Breaking Tempo returns to Berlin's favourite bass bunker OHM on April 25th. Footwork remains firmly at the centre of the series, with everything else orbiting and mutating around it - and with this night we remain fully committed to the cause, bringing Chicago footwork prodigy Heavee to Berlin for the very first time. A dancer before he was a producer, like so many who came up through Chicago's footwork scene, Heavee has spent years pushing the form into territory that is entirely his own. His critically acclaimed debut album Unleash on Hyperdub is a case in point: footwork's 160 BPM chassis is still there, but what's built on top of it draws from R&B, jazz, grime, computer games and Detroit techno. This one has been a long time coming and we are not taking it for granted. Co-headlining will be Amsterdam's T.NO - if you've been anywhere near a good dance floor recently, you've almost certainly already heard his tracks without knowing it. Drawing on his Surinamese roots and a restless ear that spans gqom, bubbling, kuduro and bouyon, T.NO is quietly rewriting what Amsterdam sounds like from the inside out. Alongside them, Breaking Tempo doubles down on the importance of Afro-Caribbean club music. Berlin's Psycho Calypso do exactly what it says on the tin — a full-throttle carnival of sound where dancehall, Latin and electronic music don't so much blend as collide, loud and gloriously messy. Hamburg sister duo Cho Room bring their command of Jersey club, Gqom and Miami Bass with the kind of effortless range that makes you wonder how two people can hold that much music in their heads at once. Breaking Tempo co-founder and Berlin bass lifer Opium Hum brings it home. See you in the circle on April 25th!

Catching Up With @bianca_oblivion, the LA-based producer, DJ, and Club Aerobics co-founder whose genre-spanning approach to global club music has made her essential listening from Los Angeles to Lisbon. From her earliest Jersey Club bootlegs flipping Missy Elliott to her own productions on Future Bounce, N.A.A.F.I, and LUCKYME, she's built a practice that refuses to stay in one lane, weaving baile funk, grime, dancehall, vogue, and UK funky into bass-heavy constructions. We explore why the drums form the foundation for everything she creates, discuss the moment she realized she'd actually made it, dive deep into her unwavering love for the Jersey Club drum pattern, and get her picks for the artists she respects most and dreams of collaborating with next. Music: Bianca Oblivion & ONHELL - Sinais (Thys Remix)

Catching up with - Breaking Tempo edition! I caught up with @cho__room, the Hamburg-based sister duo whose sets trace a line from their mother's record collection to the vast soundscapes of Black electronic music. Known for weaving Jersey Club, Gqom, Baltimore Club, House and Miami Bass they bring a singular vision to the dancefloor that's making it impossible to ignore them as the leaders of a new generation of Hamburg's underground. Catch them at one of the legendary @Bombaclart Bass parties, their own @SONIC CLUB NIGHT events or at Breaking Tempo 3 @ Ohm on April 25th with @T.NO, Heavee, Psycho Calypso and myself! I'm back catching up with my favorite artists and we kick off this season with NVST, the Swiss-Algerian producer whose grubby, psychedelic and anti-authoritarian electronics have made her essential listening across Europe's underground. Born in Lausanne and forged in the forest rave and squat party scenes before relocating to Brussels, she's built a practice that spans beatdown techno, acidic industrial, and knotty breaks, all while co-running the Big Science label and holding residencies at C12 Brussels and on Kiosk Radio and Rinse FM. With countless releases amongst others on Modeselektor's Seilscheibenpfeiler or Maloca Records, her catalog refuses easy categorization. We explore the art of storytelling in her productions, uncover why she's a secret horse girl, discuss how Djrum's meticulous approach continues to push her studio work to new heights, and get her essential picks for the exciting young talent demanding attention right now, @jamiraestrada, @ainessanjo & @le_kaiju. Required viewing for those who understand that the best club music carries the moss and mud of the forest floor!
