The “Big Kid in the Dressing Room” program is a transformative initiative designed to promote community engagement among junior and college athletes. The program emphasizes the importance of giving back through volunteering at minor hockey practices, instilling values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship in younger athletes. It also includes a commitment to learning about the history of Indian Residential Schools and participating in reconciliation efforts, such as hosting “Every Child Matters” games to honor Indigenous children affected by the residential school system. By engaging with local Indigenous communities and embodying values of respect and inclusivity, the program aims to inspire the next generation of athletes to become compassionate leaders both on and off the ice
