Your hamstrings do more than bend your knees! 🦵 They also play an important role in controlling pelvic position. When we learn to use the hamstrings to help pull the pelvis back toward a neutral position, we can improve how the pelvis and spine work together. This can help reduce unnecessary strain on the lower back and improve how we manage our position during exercise and everyday movements. The goal isn’t just to stretch tight muscles or strengthen weak ones. It’s about learning how to use your muscles to control movement and put your body in a better position to move efficiently. 💪 Better movement starts with better control. Want to learn how to move better and build strength that carries over into everyday life? Your spine is designed to move, so why not train it that way? 💪 The Jefferson Curl is one of my favorite movements for rebuilding back mobility and strength because it challenges the spine to do more than just stay rigid. Here’s why I like it: 🔹 Train spinal flexion and extension: Develop control over how your spine rounds forward and returns toward extension, building confidence in movements we use every day. 🔹 Build strength segment by segment: Gradually load the muscles supporting your spine throughout a controlled range of motion. 🔹 Improve how your spine moves over your hips: Different variations can help you develop better control and mobility between your spine and hips. The goal isn’t just to build a stronger back. It’s to build a back that you can trust to move, bend, and handle the demands of everyday life. Remember, this movement isn’t about forcing a stretch or chasing the deepest range of motion possible. Start with a manageable load, move with control, and progress as your tolerance improves. Better posture isn’t just about pulling your shoulders back. It’s about building strength and control! 💪 Your shoulder’s internal rotators play an important role in how your upper body moves and functions. Training these muscles can help improve shoulder strength, control, and overall movement quality. But here’s the key: good posture isn’t about forcing yourself to stand up straight all day. It’s about developing the strength, mobility, and coordination to move through different positions with control. Don’t just train the muscles everyone can see. Give the smaller, often overlooked movements some attention, too! Want to improve how you move and feel? Follow Peak Physique ATL for more exercise demos and practical training tips. Your body doesn’t adapt to the same old routine forever. Get creative. Get uncomfortable. Keep progressing. 💪 Sometimes, improving mobility means stepping outside your comfort zone and experimenting with how you train. These two movements were selected to challenge my body in different ways while working on lengthening the muscles around the hip joints. The goal isn’t just to stretch farther—it’s to explore new positions, build control, and improve your ability to move through a greater range of motion. Remember, exercise doesn’t have to be complicated, but it should have a purpose. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your exercise selection and find new ways to challenge your body! 🔥 Challenge: When was the last time you tried something new in your training? 📩 Interested in learning how to train for better movement, mobility, and strength? ⏱️ Don’t have an hour to warm up? Neither do I. Even as a fitness professional, I don’t always have a ton of time before a workout. That means I have to be intentional about the movements I choose. When time is limited, I want my warm-up to cover as much ground as possible — hips, quads, hip rotation, and overall lower-body mobility — without spending 20 minutes doing random stretches. Here’s one of my favorite 5-minute lower-body mobility routines: 1️⃣ Couch Stretch Static Hold — 30 sec/side 2️⃣ Couch Stretch Pulses — 15 reps/side 3️⃣ External Rotator Stretch Static Hold — 30 sec/side 4️⃣ External Rotator Extension Pulses — 15 reps/side 5️⃣ Hip Rocks — 15 reps/side 6️⃣ Hip Rotation Drill — 15 reps/side The goal isn’t to do more movements. It’s to pick the right movements for what you need and get the most out of the time you have. These are some of my go-to movements for myself when I want to get my lower body moving without turning my warm-up into a workout of its own. 💪 Save this for your next warm-up and give it a try! If you want help putting together a warm-up or training program specific to your needs, send me a message and let’s talk. #MobilityTraining #HipMobility #MovementTraining #WarmUp #PersonalTraining

The couch stretch doesn’t have to be a “hold this position and suffer” exercise. 😂 In this video, I’m coaching my client through a dynamic version of the couch stretch to improve hip mobility while reducing the amount of unnecessary tension being placed through the lower back. Instead of forcing the body into a static position, we’re actively moving through the range of motion and teaching the hips to contribute to the movement. The goal isn’t just to become more flexible — it’s to help the body move better and distribute movement where it’s supposed to come from. Mobility training should have a purpose. 👊 Want help improving your movement, mobility, and strength? A good squat starts with how you organize your spine. When starting a squat, I like to see the knees move first. This creates the space needed to lower into the movement without immediately throwing the hips back or changing the position of the spine. From there, the focus is on keeping the ribs down and stacked over the pelvis. Maintaining that stacked position allows the spine to stay neutral while the hips, knees, and ankles work together to create the movement. The goal isn’t to force your spine into a rigid position. It’s about learning how to control your rib cage and pelvis while the rest of your body moves around that stable foundation. When you can maintain that relationship throughout the squat, you’re better able to distribute force through the entire body instead of repeatedly asking the spine to handle more of the load than it needs to. Control the position. Then own the movement. #Squats #Movement #StrengthTraining #Exercise #FunctionalTraining

Your range of motion is only as useful as your ability to control it. One thing that often gets overlooked in training is end-range of motion. Getting into a position is one thing. Having the strength and control to actually own that position is another. Training end ranges can help you: • Build strength where you’re typically weakest • Improve control throughout a movement • Develop usable mobility—not just passive flexibility • Increase your ability to move confidently through different positions • Better prepare your body for the demands of everyday life and exercise And this applies to almost any exercise. Instead of always avoiding the “hardest” part of a movement, we can intentionally train it and teach the body how to control the entire range. Mobility isn’t just about how far you can move. It’s about what you can control. Want to learn how to train your movement more intentionally? • You’re eating protein… but are you giving your muscles what they actually need? 💪 Protein isn’t… – video by @peakphysiqueatl , 130 views, duration 2:16

You’re eating protein… but are you giving your muscles what they actually need? 💪 Protein isn’t just about hitting a number on a nutrition label. Your muscles need specific essential amino acids to repair, recover, and grow. That’s one reason the source of your protein matters. Animal-based protein sources like chicken, turkey, eggs, Greek yogurt, and lean beef generally provide all of the essential amino acids your body needs in proportions that are well suited for supporting muscle growth. Plant-based proteins can absolutely be part of a muscle-building diet—but they often require a little more planning. Different plant foods have different amino-acid profiles, and some are lower in certain essential amino acids or are less digestible. For example, peanut butter might say 9g of protein on the label, but that doesn’t tell you the whole story. Those 9 grams don’t necessarily provide the same amount or balance of essential amino acids as 9 grams from a higher-quality protein source. That doesn’t mean you need to avoid plant proteins. It means you need to pay attention to variety, portions, and combining different protein sources throughout the day. And one important clarification: I’m talking about whole-food protein sources here—not supplements. Protein powders and supplementation are a different conversation. Training provides the stimulus. Protein provides the building blocks. 👉 Want help figuring out how to structure your training and nutrition around your goals? @Behram Jiwani doesn’t want back pain to keep him from getting down on the floor and playing with his son. That’s what this training is really about. We’re using the Jefferson curl to teach his body how to round, bend, and load the spine under control — because avoiding movement isn’t always the answer to back pain. The goal is to gradually build strength, control, and confidence so everyday movements feel less intimidating. Because life doesn’t happen in perfect positions. You’re going to bend down. Pick things up. Get on the floor. Play with your kids. We’re training for life — not just the gym. Your joints don’t get better by sitting still. 🦴💪 One of the best things you can do for your body is simply keep moving. Regular movement helps your joints stay mobile, your muscles stay active, and your body stay prepared for the demands of everyday life. Here are 4 of my go-to movements for building strength while keeping the joints moving through different ranges of motion: 1️⃣ Front Squat An awesome foundational movement. Squatting helps keep the back, hips, knees, and ankles moving while building strength and resilient joints. 2️⃣ Half-Kneeling Lateral Lunge A great way to work the adductors of both legs while challenging active internal and external rotation of the hips. Mobility isn’t just about stretching—it’s about having control of the range you have. 3️⃣ ATG Lunge A great selection for strengthening the quads and quad tendons while also working through lengthening and contracting the psoas, which can be useful for people dealing with certain types of back discomfort. 4️⃣ Cossack Squat Perfect for developing single-leg strength and mobility while taking the hips and adductors through a deeper range of motion. An all-around solid leg-day movement. You don’t have to train like an athlete to move like one. You just need to keep moving. Which one of these movements are you adding to your next workout? 👇 If you want help building a program that improves strength AND movement, send me a message for a free consultation. #MobilityTraining #StrengthTraining #FunctionalTraining #Exercise #Fitness

Aches and pains don’t always mean you need to rest—sometimes, they’re your body asking you to move more. It’s easy to assume that feeling stiff, achy, or uncomfortable is just part of getting older. But for many people, the problem isn’t that they’re doing too much—it’s that they aren’t doing enough. When we spend most of our day sitting, our bodies can become less accustomed to moving, loading, and doing the things we ask them to do. Regular physical activity and exercise can help improve strength, mobility, cardiovascular health, body composition, and overall quality of life. It can also help address many of the issues that tend to come along with an inactive lifestyle. And no, that doesn’t mean you need to spend two hours in the gym every day. Your body doesn’t need punishment—it needs consistent movement and the right kind of exercise. Because sometimes your body isn’t saying, “Stop moving.” It’s saying, “Please move me more.” 😂 If you’re tired of feeling stiff, achy, or out of shape and want to learn how to exercise in a way that works for your body, send me a message to schedule a free consultation. #PersonalTraining #Fitness #Exercise #StrengthTraining #HealthAndFitness

Your hips have more than two settings: “sit” and “squat.” 😂 Your hip is a ball-and-socket joint that can flex, extend, abduct, adduct, and rotate both internally and externally. So why do we sometimes train them like they only know how to move up and down? Being able to access and control different hip actions is important for everything from squatting and lunging to running, changing direction, and simply moving through everyday life. The goal isn’t just stronger hips. It’s hips that know how to move. Give your hips some options. They’ve earned it. 😂 Want to learn how to train your body with more purpose and improve the way you move? “Your shoulder blades aren’t supposed to be glued down. 😂” One of the biggest misconceptions I see with pressing movements is the idea that you need to keep your shoulder blades completely pinned back and down. Your scapula actually needs to move. During pressing, the shoulder blade should be able to protract and upwardly rotate as the arm moves. That movement helps the shoulder complex work together instead of forcing the humerus to do all the heavy lifting. Think of it this way: Strong shoulders need strong movement—not just strong muscles. If your scapula can’t move well, your pressing mechanics can become less efficient and potentially contribute to discomfort. The goal isn’t to stop your shoulder blades from moving. The goal is to teach them how to move well. 💪 That’s a big part of how I approach training at Peak Physique ATL—building strength while also improving how your body moves. Your spine and pelvis don’t work independently. So why train them like they do? The ability to move AND stabilize your spine and pelvis together is a huge part of moving well. You need mobility to create movement. You need stability to control that movement. And you need the two to work together when the demands of training, sport, or everyday life increase. That’s why I’m a big believer in training the spine and pelvis through different positions, ranges of motion, and loading strategies — not just chasing flexibility or trying to “lock everything down.” Move well. Control it. Then learn to load it. Your body doesn’t need more restrictions. It needs better options. If you want to learn how to train for better movement, strength, and longevity, DM me “TRAIN” to get started. #StrengthTraining #MobilityTraining #CoreTraining #FunctionalTraining #Fitness

Strong ≠ just lifting heavy. And training ≠ doing the same exercises forever. Bilateral training has its place. Squats, deadlifts, presses, and other movements that allow you to use both sides together are great for building strength and power. But unilateral training brings something different to the table. Single-leg and single-arm movements can challenge stability, coordination, balance, and your ability to control each side independently. The key? You don’t have to choose one or the other. Good programming uses BOTH—and gets creative with exercise selection to find the right challenge for the goal. Sometimes the best exercise isn’t the most traditional one. It’s the one that gives you the stimulus you need while challenging your body in a new way. 💪 Want to train with purpose instead of just going through the motions? 📲 DM me to learn more about personal training and how we can build a program around YOUR goals. #StrengthTraining #PersonalTraining #FunctionalTraining #Fitness #StrengthAndConditioning

Stop Making Your Workouts Harder Than They Need to Be. 💪 Sometimes, the best way to train isn’t by adding more weight or more reps—it’s by changing how you perform the movement. One of the easiest ways to change the training effect of an exercise is by manipulating tempo. ⏱️ Slow the movement down to increase time under tension and control. Speed it up to emphasize explosiveness and power. Even small changes in tempo can completely change how your body responds to an exercise. Training smarter means understanding why you’re doing an exercise—not just going through the motions. If you’re ready to stop guessing and start training with a purpose, DM me “TRAIN” and let’s talk about how I can help you build a program around your goals. 🔥 #strengthtraining #fitness #workout #personaltrainer #functionaltraining

Are your shoes secretly ruining your knees? It sounds crazy, but your knee health is deeply connected to what is happening at your feet. When you wear shoes with a narrow toe box, your big toe gets crammed inward. This forces your foot arch to collapse and your foot to roll inward, creating a valgus position where your femur internally rotates awkwardly. The result? Unnecessary knee pain every time you squat, run, or simply stand up. A simple fix is to switch to footwear that allows your toes to naturally splay into a fan shape. Strengthening your feet naturally aligns your knees and hips. Next time you feel that joint ache, look down at your feet first. Lower back tension is incredibly frustrating, but the root cause might surprise you. Often, it comes down to weak hip flexors. When these muscles lack strength, they cannot lengthen properly, forcing your lower back to take the brunt of the load. The good news is you do not need a gym membership or fancy equipment to fix it. Here are two movements you can do right at home: Controlled Eccentrics: Stand near a wall for support, pull your knee up as high as possible past your hip crease, extend your leg, and spend 5 slow seconds lowering it down. Seated Active Hip Flexion: Sit in a chair and pull your knee straight up toward your shoulder in a highly controlled manner. Leaning back makes it a bit easier, while leaning forward increases the challenge. Aim for 8 to 10 controlled reps on each side to build stronger hips and a happier back. #BackPainRelief #HipFlexorStrength #HomeWorkout #NoEquipmentNeeded #CoreAndHips #StrengtheningExercises #LowerBackPain #FitnessTips

If you sit at a desk all day, your hips are likely paying the price. To offset that constant tightness, you need to introduce joint distraction into your mobility routine. Grab a heavy resistance band, loop it high up on your thigh, and drop into a kneeling position. Use your hand to guide your knee inward while keeping your glute completely relaxed for 5 seconds. You will feel a deep stretch on the inside of your thigh. Next, fire up that glute to fight the band and open the hip up as wide as possible for another 5 seconds. Repeat this sequence for 5 reps on each side before your next leg workout to completely unlock your lower body power. Ever feel that annoying pinch in the front of your hip during heavy squats or hinges? You have probably been told to just ""stretch it out,"" but that might actually be making it worse. The real culprit is often a lack of internal hip rotation when you are deep in a flexed position. Instead of endless static stretching, try incorporating split squats and lunges. By driving your active hip toward your front knee as you descend, you force your femur to internally rotate and adduct properly. Over time, this builds the tolerance you need to squat deep without that annoying impingement. Hit save and give this a try on your next lower body day! #HipMobility #HipImpingement #FunctionalFitness #SquatForm #HipFlexorPain

Back pain is something I’ve personally dealt with for years. And if you’ve ever struggled with it, you know how frustrating it can be — not just physically, but mentally too. These are a few of the exercises I personally use to help keep my back mobile, strong, and functioning properly so I can continue training, performing, and living pain-free as much as possible. What I’ve learned through training, rehab work, mobility, and consistency is that back pain doesn’t automatically mean you have to stop living, stop training, or stop getting stronger. For me, the goal was never just to “avoid pain.” It was learning how to move better, build resilience, strengthen the right areas, and create a body that could actually support the lifestyle I wanted. That’s why I’m so passionate about helping others train intelligently. Fitness shouldn’t break you down — it should help you move, feel, and perform better long term. If you’re dealing with back pain right now, understand this: progress is still possible. You can still thrive. You just need the right approach. 💪 Train smart. Move with purpose. Stay consistent. #BackPainRelief #MobilityTraining #StrengthTraining #FunctionalFitness #FitnessJourney
