2027, here we come with a throwback!

@ABsHolidayDecor came over today and decorated my tree for Christmas!! I know it’s early but you can never have the holiday spirit too early.

Two things can be true at the same time: we can collaborate and still be our own brands. I’ve never viewed LorAnn as competition. They’re an established, worldwide company, and PK Elixirs is five years in and just getting started. So when I reached out to ask if they’d be part of The Bakers Network event, their yes meant a lot to me. I’m grateful that LorAnn chose to support another flavoring brand and a minority, female-owned business. Having them right beside PK Elixirs at my own event was a moment I won’t forget. They sponsored the refresher teas and helped make the event even more special. I see the posts asking which brand is better, but there’s room for both of us. That’s what collaboration can look like. 💜

A smoother finish starts before you even pick up your spatula. I like working with frozen cake layers because they’re easier to handle while stacking and frosting. Add plenty of buttercream, take your time, and keep smoothing, you’ll get there! 🎂

Edge control when it comes to buttercream takes practice!! Trust me it’s not easy. Push away or towards yourself! Give it a try.

Before you decide your customers won’t buy it, ask yourself: Have I even given them an opportunity to try it? Make the samples. Create the flavor box. Let your customers taste everything, and ask for honest feedback. Sometimes we spend so much time guessing what people might like that we overlook the simplest form of market research, letting them experience it. That same belief has shaped how I’ve built @pkelixirs 🙌🏽. I had to listen to what other bakers were wanting to use, test all the sample flavors out one by one, and then made the next move. I started to SELL! So what is holding you back?

You don’t have to move your body round and you don’t have to keep scrapping your cake either. Add a lot of buttercream to take it off. And if you don’t like how I’m doing it, that’s fine. I’m showing what I do! But your cakes don’t look like mine either so….😂 that’s that on that! 😘

Just a little buttercream pipping tip. You cannot be far from the cake to pipe your border or it will just lay flat and not have a shape. Hold your bag as if you were writing

Replying to @Jrladnier just my opinion.

Stop being afraid to add a lot of buttercream at once. You have to put a lot of buttercream on your cake the first round. It will help shape your cake and you won’t have to constantly apply. I made one batch of American buttercream to cover this 6x6 inch round cake, flavored with Lush Berry.

Work away from yourself and not in front of yourself with applying buttercream.

I talked about this on stage at @cookiefestcanada: when people say everything looks the same, go back to what makes your brand distinct. It might be the flavors you create, the way you package them, or the experience people have with your business. You don’t have to copy what’s already working for someone else. Build on what makes your brand yours. What’s one thing that sets your business apart? Or have you even considered what does?

I planned for $93,600 in sales from January through September. @pkelixirs brought in $306,708. Im about my business!! And I’m still taking this in. September alone was $51,880. And just to be clear, sales aren’t profit, there’s inventory, shipping, and a whole lot of work behind those numbers. I’m sharing this because sometimes we’re so busy building that we don’t stop and recognize what we’ve done. If you’re working toward something, take a look back at your numbers. You might be further along than you feel.
