I had an absolute blast this past weekend right here in District 7 at Aloha Stadium for the community mural project led by renowned Native Hawaiian artist Solomon Robert Nui Enos! 🎨🌺 It was so much fun getting my hands on some paint and picking up a roller brush alongside my state colleagues, Senator Glenn Wakai and Senator Brandon Elefante. The mural is inspired by lei, water, Hālawa Valley, and the generations of people connected to this place. I loved seeing our community come together, add their own mark, and be part of bringing this living art piece to life. Mahalo to Solomon, his team, and everyone who came out and helped make this such a fun and meaningful weekend. Can’t wait to see how this beautiful piece comes together! Learn more on alohastadium.hawaii.gov for future fun events like this one!

Post from @AlohaStadiumHI on IG — This past Saturday, we held Community Art Day here at Aloha Stadium, bringing our community together to leave their mark on our new mural, created by local artist Solomon! Mahalo to everyone who came out, picked up a paintbrush, and became part of this special day. Every brushstroke helped bring this mural to life and made it a true reflection of our community. The artwork stands as a lei, a symbol of aloha, connection, and growth, representing the continued growth and transformation of Aloha Stadium over the next few years. Mahalo for being a part of this special moment in our stadium's story. #alohastadium #hawaii #oahu #community #mural

We saw some of your comments, and YES—there are native trees!🌳 The City’s Division of Urban Forestry (DUF), offers a selection of NATIVE and CANOE trees. When you submit a request, @treesforhonolulu and @oahutrees Urban Forestry staff will work with you to find the best tree for the location, taking into consideration factors like available space, climate conditions, and long-term growth. Their goal is to match the right tree to the right place so it can thrive for years to come. You can also suggest locations where you’d like to see more trees planted in our neighborhoods. Mahalo to my District 7 @honoluluyouthcommission Commissioner Arabella Cruz for joining me to spread the word! Want to know more? Visit bit.ly/TreeHonolulu or scan the QR code in the flyer. Earlier in the school year, I had the opportunity to attend Farrington High School’s Career Fair and connect with students as they explored different career paths and opportunities for their future. Now that summer is here, it's a great reminder that there are many ways for our youth and young adults to gain valuable experience, build skills, and start thinking about their next steps. I was pleased to see strong representation from our City departments, including HPD, DDC, DHR, and DPR, sharing information about the many career paths available in public service. From engineering and human resources to parks maintenance and public safety, there is truly something for everyone. The City is always hiring! We are always looking for dedicated individuals who want to make a difference in their community. Mahalo to Farrington High School for creating these opportunities and helping students connect with professionals from a wide range of industries.

One of my favorite things about serving our community is finding opportunities to bring people together, and our Read Aloud event at Hālawa Skyline Station was exactly that. 📚🚆 Mahalo to Read to Me International for partnering with us again for a morning filled with stories, learning, and community connection. This time, we were joined by DTS Director of Transit Jon Nouchi and firefighters from HFD Fire Station 10 in ʻAiea, who helped make the day extra special for our youth. The keiki got to meet real firefighters, explore a firetruck, hear stories read aloud, and even receive free HOLO cards to take a ride on Skyline. Director Nouchi also read a transportation-themed book that inspired him as a child, showing us how stories can shape our interests and help us dream big! Events like this remind me why it's so important to activate our public spaces and create opportunities for our City departments to connect directly with the community. When our keiki can meet the people who serve them, ask questions, and see themselves in those roles one day, that's powerful. A special mahalo to Firefighter Mau and Firefighter Otsuka, who spent their very last day of service with us before retirement. What an incredible way to cap off your careers and we mahalo you both for your years of commitment, sacrifice, and aloha.

Before the month of May ends, I wanted to reflect back on the Filipino Fiesta that happened earlier this month at the Filipino Community Center. As part of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, I had so much fun joining hundreds of residents to celebrate the many contributions of Hawai‘i’s Filipino community. Growing up, my Filipino culture was always a big part of my life, which is why it always means so much to me to see our community come together every year to celebrate everything that makes our culture so special. From the traditional dances, beautiful cultural textiles, live music, to the amazing food that brought everyone together, the Filipino Fiesta once again showcased the vibrant spirit of our community. Filipino Fiesta is a reminder that our culture is not only something we honor from the past, but something we continue to share and pass on to future generations. Mahalo to the Filipino Community Center, the organizers, volunteers, performers, vendors, and everyone who helped make this event such a success. I’m proud to be Filipina, proud to be born and raised in Hawai‘i, and proud to celebrate alongside a community that continues to make our islands vibrant and full of aloha.

Shakas up! What a night welcoming home our 2026 NCAA National Champions! Congratulations to our Hawaiʻi Rainbow Warriors Men's Volleyball team on bringing the title back to Hawaiʻi! On Monday, May 11, the Rainbow Warriors took down UC Irvine reminded the entire country what Warrior ball is all about. The last time our boys brought home the championship was 2022 and now the trophy is back where it belongs. 🤙🏽 From the first serve to championship point, this team played with heart, grit, discipline, and pride for Hawaiʻi. There is absolutely no doubt, they did it with the support of the BEST fans in the country behind them. It was an honor joining the state and city administration, along with my fellow Councilmember @Tyler Dos Santos-Tam, to celebrate these student-athletes and officially welcome our champions home. It’s a GREAT day to be a Rainbow Warrior. BOWS UP! 🌈

I had the opportunity to join the Honolulu International Esports Tournament hosted by Farrington High School. This all started as an idea to partner with one of the schools located in one of our Sister Cities in Korea. Now, Farrington has gained the support and trust from several community partners. From food sponsors helping keep our gamers fueled throughout the tournament to live tournament coverage by KHON2, it was amazing to see everyone come together to support our students and create such an exciting experience. Esports is more than just gaming. It builds teamwork, communication, leadership, creativity, and opens doors to future careers in technology and media industries. This is only the beginning. We’re already collaborating on ways to grow this tournament on a larger scale and continue developing meaningful opportunities and career pathways for our youth here in Honolulu.

It was an honor to recognize this Mutual Plumbing Supply Co. on their 60th Anniversary during National Small Business Week. I joined this family-owned business to celebrate four generations of resilience and service to our community. Founded by Jack T. Arii in 1966 to the leadership of Chelsey Chen today, Mutual Plumbing has continued to treat customers like ‘ohana while standing strong through changing times. In an era where many local businesses are competing against larger companies on the continent, Mutual Plumbing remains one of the last locally-owned plumbing suppliers on our island. Which says so much about the heart, hard work, and relationships behind this business. What started as a small dream has grown into a lasting legacy serving many local contractors, families, and our community for six decades. Mahalo to the Arii, Kojima, and Chen ‘ohana for continuing to invest in Hawaiʻi and proving that local businesses built on trust and care can truly stand the test of time. Congratulations on 60 incredible years! 🎉

I am so happy to visit and recognize Baldwin’s Sweet Shop in honor of National Small Business Week! 🍧🍬 If you grew up on Oʻahu, chances are you’ve had memories at @baldwinssweetshop! Whether it was grabbing shave ice after school, picking up crack seed, or getting candy leis for graduation season. Baldwin’s is a true community staple, not just for Waimalu, but island-wide. From their homemade shave ice flavors to all the local snacks we grew up with, Baldwin’s Sweet Shop has kept Hawaiʻi traditions alive for generations. Through all the ups and downs over the years, they’ve continued serving the community with so much heart and aloha. Small businesses like this are what make our communities special. Mahalo to Francis and Sadie Nakakura and the entire Baldwin’s Sweet Shop ʻohana for all that you do! 💛🍧 #OurOahu #OurCouncil #OurHonolulu #SmallBusinessWeek #ShopLocal

Ever wonder where the term Aloha Friday came from? You can thank Tori Richard for that! It’s my pleasure to recognize @toririchard for 70 years of business in Hawai‘i during National Small Business Week alongside Councilmember @Tyler From its start in Honolulu back in 1956 on Pier 7 to its home in Kalihi today, Tori Richard has grown into a globally recognized brand while staying true to its local island roots. For decades, they’ve not only shaped Hawaiʻi’s fashion scene, but also supported our local economy, created jobs, and kept the aloha spirit alive. Big mahalo and congratulations to Tori Richard and their team!

Every day is Earth Day! 🌎 Especially on a day like today where we celebrate our commitment to mālama ʻāina. This past weekend, I joined ‘Aiea Intermediate students and community members at Makalapa Neighborhood Park to plant 5 kukui and 4 milo trees!🌳 9 new trees in total.✨ Since joining the Council, I’ve always advocated for and continue to invest in Makalapa Neighborhood Park. We’ve planted several trees here over the years. The latest effort prior to this was in March 2024, when we added 4 trees. It’s always so rewarding to come back and see our work and community grow, just like our trees! 💚 Mahalo to our amazing community foresters from the @honolulu_parks, Division of Urban Forestry @oahutrees, for making this event possible. Another big shoutout to the Friends of Makalapa Hui, students of ‘Aiea Intermediate, and our community resource groups who came out to care for this special place and keep our neighborhood connected. 🌳🏡 #OurOahu #OurCouncil #OurOahu #EarthDay #EverydayIsEarthDay

Budget season is in full swing at the Honolulu City Council, and I’ve submitted my second round of amendments for the City’s FY2027 Proposed Budget. This video is a little longer, but stay with me to see what I’m advocating for. My focus is making sure our District 7 communities, from Waimalu Kai to Kapālama Kai, receive the resources and attention they deserve. In a time of economic uncertainty, one thing is certain— I will continue fighting to ensure our district’s needs are heard and prioritized. I’ll be submitting another round of amendments soon! If there’s something in your neighborhood that needs attention, please reach out to me or my office. 📞 (808) 768-5007 📧 [email protected] #OurOahu #OurHonolulu #OurCouncil #Budget #District7

Councilmember @Tyler and I joined the Kalihi community at the Govs Reunion Bash for an evening celebrating Governor pride. This event is especially meaningful because the proceeds will go toward scholarships for students in their pursuit of higher education. Mahalo to the Farrington Alumni and Community Foundation for hosting such an amazing night bringing together alumni, community members, and everyone who loves the Kalihi to enjoy ‘ono food, live music, and great company.
