If you only pay attention to city projects when they come with concerts, skyline views, or flashy renderings, this is the one you might accidentally overlook. And honestly, that would be a mistake. OKC is building a $42 million animal welfare center, and it is the kind of project people usually do not think about until life goes sideways. A lost pet. A surrender. A rescue. An adoption. A system that needs to work on someone’s hardest day. The new MAPS 4 Louisa McCune Animal Welfare Center is now halfway through construction and it is being built to completely change how animal services function in the city. We are talking about a 70,000 square foot facility designed to separate adoption, intake, training, and clinic services so the whole place feels cleaner, calmer, and actually works better. And the scale is kind of wild. Quieter dog and cat spaces Natural light in kennel areas Outdoor play yards Training spaces Meeting rooms A barn and pasture Nearly 550 dog kennels and 300 cat condos This is not some tiny side project. It is a major investment in a part of city life that people often overlook until they need it most. So what do you think Is this one of the most important MAPS projects in OKC Or one people will not fully appreciate until the doors open?

If you have ever driven between downtown Edmond and UCO and thought this stretch feels like it should be more than it is… you are not imagining it. 👀 Edmond City Council just approved the University District Plan, a long term vision to turn the area between downtown and the University of Central Oklahoma into a more walkable mixed use district with housing, retail, entertainment, and better pedestrian connections. The plan was approved by council after city staff and consultants pitched it as a way to finally bridge the gap between two of Edmond’s biggest destinations. And here is the part that makes this more than just another planning document. A market study tied to the plan says the district could support 627 new dwellings by 2032 along with additional retail demand. City leaders and consultants have openly compared the vision to a Campus Corner style district, something that could give Edmond a stronger connection between campus life and downtown life. This is not a shovel in the ground tomorrow kind of project. It is a roadmap with short term and long term goals. But it is now officially city backed, and that matters. Because once a city adopts a vision like this, it starts shaping what gets built next and where investment flows. So what do you think Edmond needs more of here… patience, or momentum?

Most people will not care about this story until the day something breaks. And by then, it will be way too late. 👀 Edmond just got $4 million in federal funding for a dedicated electric substation at the water treatment plant. On paper, that sounds like the kind of update people scroll right past. In real life, it is the city quietly trying to make sure one of the most important systems we all depend on can actually keep up with what Edmond is becoming. Because this is not really about a substation. It is about growth, water demand, stricter standards, and the fact that the city’s treatment plant expansion is already pulling major power now, with even more load expected in the future. This is the kind of infrastructure move that usually only gets attention when a city waits too long. So the real question is not whether this sounds exciting. It is whether Edmond is finally getting ahead of growth for once instead of playing catch up again. Smart move or too little too late? Tell me what you think.

Most ribbon cuttings are easy to scroll past. This one is different because what reopened in South OKC is not just a building. It is a community hub with a much bigger mission. 💛 The Pete White YMCA is now officially open, taking over the former MAPS 3 wellness center and launching a new chapter through a partnership between the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City and the Latino Community Development Agency, along with other local groups focused on health, education, and recreation. At the grand opening, community leaders and neighbors showed up in a big way, and the celebration even included a mariachi performance. What makes this story hit harder is that it is designed to remove barriers, not just offer programs. EMBARK has a senior transit program that provides free round trip rides for older adults to approved wellness centers for things like classes, meals, appointments, grocery trips, and community activities. That makes a place like this feel a lot bigger than a reopening. So the real story is not just that the Pete White YMCA is open. It is that OKC now has one more place intentionally built around connection, wellness, and access. Do you think places like this make a bigger difference than people get credit for? Tell me below or send this to someone who would want to know.

If you have driven the Kilpatrick lately and thought this road feels way too small for what it is carrying… you are definitely not the only one. At first glance this just looks like another construction headache. Orange barrels. Narrow lanes. Delays nobody asked for. But the bigger story is what this stretch of road is trying to catch up to. This part of the Kilpatrick is already handling more than 76,000 vehicles a day on average and it is one of the fastest growing traffic corridors in the entire turnpike system. That is why crews are now widening sections of the turnpike, keeping two lanes open each way while they work, and even expanding the bridges over Northwest Expressway. And here is the part a lot of people are missing. This is not just a one off fix. It is part of the larger Access Oklahoma plan and there is more coming after this first phase. Officials have already outlined future widening nearby, including a six lane Kilpatrick on the west side and a new County Line Road interchange. So yes, it is a mess right now. But it is also one of those projects that tells you just how fast this part of the metro is growing. Do you think this is a smart long term move or just one giant traffic headache in the making? Drop your take below.

Some restaurant openings feel like business. This one feels like someone handing Oklahoma City a piece of their life. ✨ Yes, Dougla Kitchen is Chef Andrew Black’s fourth restaurant in OKC, and yes, it opened in the former Black Walnut space on February 14. But the reason people are talking about it goes way deeper than a new menu. Dougla is Black’s most personal concept yet, built around the food, memories, and heritage that shaped him growing up in Jamaica and drawing inspiration from Trinidad and Tobago. Black, the 2023 James Beard Award winner for Best Chef: Southwest, has said this restaurant is a tribute to his grandmother and the kind of cooking that turns whatever you have into something beautiful. The menu leans into elevated Caribbean and Indian flavors, but the heart of the place sounds even better than that. It is meant to feel casual, communal, and full of life. I had the chance to try it shortly after opening, and I have to say… it was fantastic. This is the kind of place you go for the food and stay for the feeling. Would you try this one? Send this to the friend you’d take with you. . . Just FYI.. it's pronounced DUUG-lah. Apologies for mispronouncing it!

If you think the biggest real estate story last week was a new tower or a flashy announcement, you may have missed the one thing that actually mattered most. It was not a headline. It was the tone in the room. At the inaugural Oklahoma Multifamily Symposium at Jones Assembly, the conversations coming from developers, lenders, owners, and operators were not casual. They were about tighter debt, stricter lenders, rising insurance, operating costs, valuation pressure, affordability, and deals that now have to be structured a whole lot cleaner than they did a few years ago. And it did not stop there. The panels went deep into multifamily development, operations, legal strategy, tax structure, risk management, technology, and repositioning assets to create more value out of what already exists. That is when this stops sounding like a niche apartment event and starts sounding like something much bigger. Because markets do not talk like this when they are sleepy. They talk like this when serious money is in the room. When expectations are higher. When the people paying attention know the game is changing. That was the real takeaway. Multifamily is no longer some side conversation in Oklahoma. It is becoming central to economic development in OKC, Tulsa, and across the region. Institutional capital is here. Private equity is here. Sophisticated lenders are here. Oklahoma multifamily has grown up. So if you are watching Oklahoma real estate closely, does this feel like opportunity or a warning sign? Drop your take below.

🚨 If you live in Edmond, this is one city hall story you probably do not want to scroll past. City leaders are now weighing what one recent report described as four “bad options” for future water rate increases, and the reason is bigger than one budget meeting. Edmond says its current round of water system improvements traces back to a 2013 master plan built around expanding long term supply, including greater use of Arcadia Lake. Since then, city officials say Edmond has already spent more than $600 million on the system, with at least another $600 million still ahead. That is what makes this feel so heavy. This is not some random bill showing up out of nowhere. It is years of growth, years of expansion, and a city still trying to upgrade infrastructure tied to a much smaller Edmond. Back in 2023, the city approved a rate plan that called for 3 percent annual water increases and 2 percent annual wastewater increases through 2026, and that framework is still part of the conversation as council looks at what comes next. So yes, this could end up affecting pretty much every household in town. The city says higher rates are being discussed to cover debt, capital projects, and system reliability, and officials have said residents will get a chance to weigh in during a future public comment meeting. Do you think this is just the cost of finally catching up on infrastructure… or did Edmond wait too long to deal with it? Drop your take below.

If you care about housing prices in North OKC or Edmond this is one of those updates you do not want to miss. Something just quietly moved forward near Northwest 192nd and Pennsylvania and it could matter a lot more than people realize. Dominion just purchased land for a new development backed by the low income housing tax credit program which is one of the biggest tools used in the country to create affordable housing. And this is not a small project. They are planning 184 homes for working individuals and families in a part of the city that has been growing fast and getting more expensive. The project called The Scott will include a mix of two story walk ups and townhome style buildings along with a full lineup of amenities like a clubhouse fitness center business center playground and pool. Inside the homes they are planning in unit washer and dryer granite countertops luxury vinyl plank flooring and stainless steel appliances. So this is not being positioned as bare bones housing. The goal is quality housing at a more attainable price point. And here is why this matters. When projects like this get approved it starts to shift who can actually afford to live in these areas and how fast prices continue to climb. This is also Dominion’s second new construction project in Oklahoma which is a strong signal that more developments like this could be coming. So the real question is this Do we need more projects like this in North OKC or do you think it changes the area too much Curious to hear your take 👇

If you’ve ever driven past this place and thought someone should do something with it… they finally are. Midwest City is about to erase one of its most recognizable landmarks and the reason behind it says everything about where the city is headed. Heritage Park Mall is officially being demolished. This didn’t come out of nowhere. The city’s urban renewal authority has been in a condemnation lawsuit since October 2024, working to take control of what they’ve repeatedly called a blighted property in the center of the city. A judge has now cleared the way for the city to take ownership and move forward. What makes this hit different is what this place used to be. When it opened in 1978, Heritage Park was the place to be. At one point it was fully occupied and competing with the biggest names in the metro like Penn Square, Crossroads, and Quail Springs. Then everything shifted. Online shopping took over. The 2008 recession hit. Stores left. And by 2010 it was essentially frozen in time. There was even a proposal to bring it back with housing, retail, solar, and an aquaponics farm, but the city rejected the zoning before the legal battle escalated. Now this is the final chapter. This isn’t just a demolition. It’s a sign that Midwest City is done waiting and ready to move forward with something new. If you remember this place in its prime you already know how big of a deal this is. Send this to someone who used to go here.

If you blinked this week you might have missed a decision that could reshape downtown Oklahoma City. The city just approved the construction firm for the new MAPS 4 multipurpose stadium and that means the project officially moved from concept to reality. The stadium is planned just south of Bricktown and it is expected to anchor an entirely new sports and entertainment district in that part of downtown. City council approved Lingo Construction to lead the project and construction is expected to begin this spring. If everything stays on schedule the stadium could open in early 2028. The design is being handled by Populous which is one of the most recognized sports venue design firms in the world and operations will be managed by Echo Investment Capital. The plan calls for a 121 million dollar stadium that is meant to be more than a place for games. The goal is to create a gathering space, a destination and a major piece of what comes next for downtown OKC. In other words this is the moment where the project stops being a rendering and starts becoming real. The area south of Bricktown is not just getting a stadium. It is getting an entirely new identity. Who do you think should play there first once it opens?
