#rm :: Ever since I met RM, I never expected to care so deeply about someone I had only ever known through a screen. I met Namjoon at a time when I needed someone, but felt like I had no one. Somehow, he helped heal parts of me that he had never been the reason for hurting. And maybe it’s ironic that the “King of Destruction” ended up helping me put some of my pieces back together. I know Namjoon receives a lot of hate. And honestly, I understand why some people struggle to separate the person he is today from the mistakes he made in the past. I’m aware of his past, I’m aware of the things he has been criticized for, and I’m not going to pretend he has never made mistakes. But I also believe people can grow. What matters to me is that Namjoon has educated himself, reflected on his mistakes, taken responsibility when he has hurt people, and continued trying to become a better person. I don’t admire him because I think he is perfect. I admire him because I know he isn’t—and he has never stopped learning. And there are things I wish people would remember before blaming him for everything. The fact that he didn’t say anything about the CB concert doesn’t automatically mean that he chose to stay silent. HYBE is doing well enough without BTS at the moment, so it’s not impossible to believe that they could remove someone from the group if they wanted to. We don’t know what happens behind closed doors, and I would never pretend that I do. But one of the hardest things for me to watch was seeing Namjoon’s face and feeling like he wanted to say something, yet wasn’t allowed to. I’m not saying this to excuse everything he has ever done. I’m saying it because I believe there is a difference between holding someone accountable and refusing to acknowledge their growth. I like Namjoon. I think I always will. I’m grateful that I met him, even if it was through a phone screen. I’m grateful for the comfort he gave me without ever knowing my name, and for the person he inspired me to become. Happy birthday, Namjoon. I hope today is kind to you. I hope you get to smile, breathe, and feel loved for a little while.
