The first set of this incredible lineage was the Jean-Pierre Wimille. Unveiled during Monterey Car Week in August 2013, the trio of Jean-Pierre Wimille Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesses were built in honour of the works racing driver who twice won at Le Mans. Dan Gurney’s AAR Eagle Mk I Gurney-Weslake is one of the great American Formula 1 cars. In this film, Lord March, Simon Taylor, Bruce Meyer, and Andrew Frankel explore the story of chassis 103, the creation of All-American Racers, and Gurney’s ambition to take on Formula 1’s established European teams. Chassis 103 is the second of three Eagle Mk Is fitted with the 2,997-cc Gurney-Weslake V-12. Driven by Richie Ginther, Gurney, and Ludovico Scarfiotti, it raced at Monaco, Canada, and Italy during the 1967 Formula 1 season. Gurney drove it to third place at Mosport in torrential rain. The Eagle project went on to make history when Gurney won the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix in sister chassis 104, giving an American-built Formula 1 design its only World Championship Grand Prix victory.
