In episode four of Knowledge is Speed, RockShox Race Technician Craig Miller breaks down the stanchion breather holes used across all LinearXL forks, BoXXer, ZEB, and Lyrik. As a fork moves, air inside the chassis can get trapped. If that air can't move freely, the fork can feel more speed sensitive than intended. Breather holes connect those internal volumes so air can move around as one larger chamber. The result is improved speed sensitivity and a fork that reacts consistently, no matter the hit.
