Rich in purpose. 🦺💚 I took a passion for safety and turned it into the Safety nerd community The real wealth isn't the content or the titles. It's YOU. This community. Seven months ago, the Safety Nerd page was just an idea and a handful of people. Today it's thousands of us, people breaking into safety, levelling up, cheering each other on, and reminding me every day why I started. You turned my purpose into a movement. So when I say I'm rich, I mean it. Rich in community. Rich in purpose. Rich in the people walking this road with me. 💚 Thank you for being part of the Safety Nerd community. We're just getting started. #community #safety #safetyofficer #hseprofessional #safetytok

ISO 45001, Made Simple. Clause 9: Performance Evaluation Part 1. 🦺 This clause is the 'Check' in Plan-Do-Check-Act, and there's so much in it that I'm splitting it in two. Part 1 is how you actually measure and evaluate safety (Ohs) . You decide what to measure, how and when, with methods that give valid results. You measure real workplace exposures, noise, air quality, dust, gases, vibration, against recognised limits. You calibrate your equipment, because an uncalibrated meter gives you numbers you can't trust, and a wrong 'safe' reading is more dangerous than no reading at all. And you track both leading AND lagging indicators. Part 2, internal audits and management review, is next. #iso45001 #safetyofficer #learnontiktok #safety #isostandards

Replying to @Kaylan Wells You asked, so here it is. 🦺 So many of you have been asking where to take ISO courses and how to know if they're actually legit, so let me break it down. If you're going for an Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor certification, choose a course approved by a recognised certification body like CQI/IRCA, Exemplar Global or PECB. Reputable training providers include BSI, DNV, SGS, LRQA and Bureau Veritas, among others. Here's the nuance though. This doesn't apply to every ISO course. If you're just taking an introductory or awareness course to understand the standard, that's fine, it doesn't need to be externally certified. But for auditor certifications, it matters. So do your research. Use a reputable provider, and before you pay, confirm the course is approved on the certification body's official website. That one step can save you from wasting money on a certificate that carries no weight #isocertification #safetyofficer #isotraining #safety #ohs

The hierarchy of controls, ranked. 🦺 This is the order you should ALWAYS work through when controlling a hazard, from most effective to least. Elimination comes first, remove the hazard entirely. Then substitution, swap it for something safer. Then engineering controls, isolate people from the hazard. Then administrative controls, change the way people work. And last of all, PPE. Here's the part people get wrong PPE is the LAST line of defence, not the first. So many workplaces jump straight to 'wear your hard hat' and skip every stronger control above it. But the higher up you go, the less you rely on human behaviour, and that's what makes a control actually work #learnontiktok #ohs #hierarchyofcontrols #safetytok #safetyofficer

Just sign it off, we'll fix it later. 😭🦺 And this is exactly the moment a safety professional has to hold the line. Because your signature isn't just a formality, it's you saying 'this is safe.' And if it's not ready, no deadline is worth putting your name on it. #safetymemes #relatable #safetyofficer #humour #safety

Over the years in HSE, these are the ISO standards I've become familiar with. 🦺 Not an exhaustive list, and honestly, no one needs to know them all. But these are the ones that have shown up in my world, and here's what each one covers. 🦺 ISO 45001 , occupational health and safety management. The big one for us. Identifying hazards and managing risks proactively, not just reacting to incidents. 🌍 ISO 14001 , environmental management. Controlling and reducing environmental impact and meeting compliance obligations. 📋 ISO 9001 , quality management. Consistently meeting customer and regulatory requirements. It shares the same structure as 45001 and 14001, so they integrate seamlessly. 🧠 ISO 45003 , the companion to 45001. The first global standard on psychological health and safety at work, stress, burnout, mental wellbeing. ⚖️ ISO 31000 , risk management. Principles for managing risk of any kind across an organisation. Given my risk background, this one's close to home. 🍽️ ISO 22000 , food safety management. A systematic approach to controlling food safety hazards across the supply chain, so food is safe from farm to fork. (One close to home for me from my food manufacturing days.) 🔄 ISO 22301 , business continuity management. Helps organisations prepare for, respond to, and recover from disruptions, so operations can keep running when things go wrong ⚡ ISO 50001 , energy management. Helps organisations use energy more efficiently, cut consumption and costs, and reduce their carbon footprint through a structured energy management system. Here's a tip that ties it together: 45001, 14001 and 9001 all share the same structure, which is why so many organisations run them as one integrated system. 💚 You don't need to know every standard. You need to know the ones relevant to YOUR world, and know them well. Which ones have YOU worked with? 👇 #isostandards #hsecareer #safetymanagement #safetyofficer #45001

#tiktoklive #livehighlights Such a powerful live session today. 🦺💚 We talked about something a lot of you have been asking about, how to move from HSE into ESG. Here's the gold Mariam @ESG_Simplified ✨ shared. If you're already grounded in HSE, you're closer to ESG than you think. The key is understanding what genuinely interests you in your current space, then connecting it to the part of ESG where you can thrive. Love the environmental side? There's a whole world opening up: GHG accounting, carbon capture, climate finance, climate risk assessment. You can start with courses and podcasts on these, and here's the beautiful part, you get to match them with the skills you ALREADY have. You're not starting over. You're building on your foundation. That's the mindset shift. ESG isn't a different lane you abandon HSE for. It's an extension of the expertise you've already built. 💚 Were you on the live? What stood out most to you? 👇 And tell me, is ESG a path you're exploring? #safetyofficer #esg #sustainability

A little throwback. 🦺 This was me earlier in my journey, deployed to a site in Lagos, breaking down what I actually did every day as a safety professional. Watching this back hits different. I remember how much I was still learning, how every day on that site was building something I couldn't fully see yet. I didn't have it all figured out. I just showed up, did the work, and grew. If you're early in your own journey right now, let this be your reminder. Every site, every shift, every day you think is 'just work' is quietly shaping the professional you're becoming. Keep showing up. 💚 #throwback #safetyofficer #womeninsafety #hsecareer #careerjourney

ISO 45001, Made Simple. Clause 8: Operation. 🦺 This is where everything you've planned finally meets the real world. It's the 'Do' in Plan, Do, Check, Act, and it has a few key parts. First, operational planning and control. This is putting your actual controls in place, safe systems of work, procedures, permits, and making sure the work gets done safely. The plan becomes real here. Second, management of change. Whenever something new comes in, a new process, new equipment, new people, you assess it before it creates a hazard. You don't wait for an incident to tell you something changed. Third, procurement and contractors. This one gets overlooked, but there's a saying I love: you get the safety you procure. The safety of your workplace isn't only built by your own team, it's shaped by what you buy and who you bring in. Cheap, poor-quality equipment is a hazard you paid for. The lowest-bidding contractor with a weak safety record brings their risks onto your site. So build safety into your buying and hiring from the start. Set safety requirements for what you purchase, and check that contractors are competent before they ever step on site. By the time the work begins, it's often too late to fix what you procured. And fourth, emergency preparedness and response. You plan, train and drill for the emergencies that could actually happen, so if the worst comes, people know exactly what to do. That's Clause 8. Safety in motion #safetyofficer #iso45001 #hsecareer #ohs #safety

I was genuinely perplexed when I saw this. 😨🦺 Some things you just can't scroll past. Leaning your body out of a scissor lift to save two minutes is never worth it. The guardrails only protect you when you stay inside them, and from that height, there's no second chance. The fix was simple. Lower the lift, move it closer, raise it back up. That's it. 💚 Be the person who takes the two minutes. What stood out to you most here? 👇 #fallprotection #workingatheight #safetyofficer #unsafeact #safety

If you're trying to break into safety, this is the mindset shift that changes everything. 🦺 You don't have 'no experience.' You have experience you haven't learned to present yet. So many talented people count themselves out before they even apply, because they look at their CV and see gaps instead of value. But the skills, the exposure, the things you've already done, they're there. You just have to know how to show them. Stop seeing an empty page. Start seeing a story that needs reframing. #cvtips #safetycareer #careeradvice #resumetips #safety

In safety, you hear this word all the time. ALARP. 🦺 But can you actually explain it? ALARP means As Low As Reasonably Practicable. You reduce a risk as low as you reasonably can, up to the point where going further would cost far more in time, money or effort than the safety benefit you'd gain. The key word is reasonable. It's not about eliminating every risk at any cost. It's about doing everything sensible and proportionate. Picture a noisy workshop. The risk is hearing damage. You enclose the loudest machines, provide hearing protection, rotate workers and add signage. The risk is now well controlled. But spending two million dollars to replace every machine just to cut the noise by one more decibel? That's grossly disproportionate to the benefit. So once you've done everything reasonable, the risk is ALARP. You didn't make it silent, you made it as low as reasonably practicable. 💚 Had you heard this term before? 👇 #safetyofficer #risk #hse #learnontiktok #safety

Monday motivation for my safety nerds🦺💚 Some days you're the most appreciated person on site, and some days you're the most resented, often in the same shift.😂😂 Because caring about people's safety sometimes means being the one who says no. The one who stops the job. The one who holds the line when it would be easier to look away. And that's okay. You're not here to be liked. You're here to make sure everyone goes home. The people who grumble about your standards today are the same people who get home safe to their families because of them. So wear it with pride. Being both loved and hated means you're doing the job properly. 💚 Happy Monday. Go hold the line. 🦺😎 #mondaymotivation #fyp #safety #relatable #careermotivation

Why is it ALWAYS the one document you didn't get to? 😩🦺 We've all been there. But here's the real lesson. Audits don't fail because your whole system is bad. They identify the small gaps, the one procedure that slipped out of date, the record nobody controlled. That's why document control matters so much. Keep your documented information current and reviewed, not just created once and forgotten. The goal isn't to survive the audit. It's to be audit-ready every single day. #safetymeme #relatable #safetyofficer #ohs #safety

ISO 45001, Made Simple. Clause 7: Support. 🦺 You can have the best safety plan in the world, but without support it's just words on paper. Its five parts: • resources (people, time, money, equipment) • competence (trained and qualified workers) • awareness (everyone understands their role and the hazards) • communication (internal and external), and •documented information (procedures and records, controlled and kept at the latest revision). Real example, in order: a company brings in a new machine. They budget for it (resources), train the operators to use it properly (competence), make everyone aware of the new hazards (awareness), communicate the changes across the team (communication), and create or update the procedures so everyone's working from the latest revision (documented information). That's support, all five parts working together. Clause 8 next. 💚 #iso45001 #safetyofficers #learnontiktok #safety #ohs

Epi 04 -Planning ISO 45001, Made Simple. Clause 6: Planning. 🦺 This is where the real safety thinking begins, deciding what could go wrong and what you'll do about it. Its parts: address your risks AND opportunities, identify hazards and assess risks using the hierarchy of controls, know your legal requirements, and set measurable safety objectives with a plan to hit them. Real example #safetyofficer #iso45001 #hsecareer #safety #ohs

Epi 03- ISO 45001, Made Simple. Clause 5: Leadership and Worker Participation. 🦺 This one sits at the heart of the standard. It does two things. It makes top management accountable for safety, not just the safety officer, they set the policy, provide resources, and own it. And it requires worker participation, workers must be consulted and genuinely involved in safety decisions, because the people doing the work know the risks best. The difference? A policy written in an office and emailed down gets ignored. One shaped by leaders AND the workers who use it gets followed. Clause 6 next. 💚 #safetyofficer #iso45001 #ohs #learnontiktok #safety

Epi -02 ISO 45001, Made Simple. Clause 4: Context of the Organisation. 🦺 This is the foundation your whole safety system sits on, and most people rush past it. It has four parts. • Understand your internal and external issues (your culture, resources, industry, regulations). • Understand your interested parties (workers, contractors, clients, regulators and what they expect). • Determine your scope (what your system covers, in writing). And establish the management system itself. #safetyofficers #iso45001 #hsecareer #learnontiktok #ohs

ISO 45001, Made Simple. Episode 1. 🦺 If this standard has ever felt overwhelming, start here. ISO 45001 is the global standard for safety management systems. It has 10 clauses, but clauses 1 to 3 are just setup (scope, references, definitions). The real, auditable requirements live in clauses 4 to 10. And the whole thing runs on Plan, Do, Check, Act: Plan (4, 5, 6), Do (7, 8), Check (9), Act (10). One pro tip that changes how you read any standard: 'shall' means it's a requirement, 'should' is a recommendation, 'may' means permitted, and 'can' means possible. Learn that and the whole document opens up. Clause 4 is next. Follow along and by the end of this series you'll understand ISO 45001 better than most people in the field. 💚 #safetyofficer #iso45001 #hsecareer #safety #ohs
